Enjoyable stay

The booking procedure was fairly straightforward with one significant disappointment that it wasn’t until we had paid the deposit that we found out there was a cleaning charge of €65. The annoyance was mainly the hidden nature of the charge but it also seemed excessive considering the size of the property. Ironically, if it had been included in the advertised price, the property would still have been good value for money. The satnav coordinates provided took us exactly to our designated parking spot and Gill was waiting for us - we had advised her of the time we expected to arrive. She was very friendly and efficient in showing us the apartment. The pictures in the advert made the apartment seem bigger than it actually was - it was adequate for two of us but we thought it would be a bit of a squeeze for 4 people. The kitchen was well equipped and the bathroom was adequate although the towel stand was a waste of space and there was no toilet brush. The bed was comfortable and the bedding/towels cost and extra €10 per person. The best part of the apartment was the roof terrace, especially the awning like sun shades, which added privacy as well as protection from sun & wind. We ate most meals there. A small fridge up there would have been a good addition. Gill had said the wind picked up at 4pm every day but we could it to be windy most of the time making barbecuing somewhat interesting! The barbecue had not been cleaned out before we arrived which was a little disappointing. We did our main food shopping at Mercadona in Alhama but the Spar shop was adequate for top-up shopping if a little expensive. There are also a few bars on site but we didn’t use them. The complex is gated and once Gill had registered our car with security the barrier lifted automatically as we approached. The security made us feel quite safe. It is built around a golf course and I did consider having a round when I found a set of clubs in the wardrobe. However they were left handed, so no good for me. Also the green fees of €53 seem a little expensive. It seemed that most others on site thought so too, as the course was empty most of the time. All in all, we enjoyed our stay at Condado de Alhama and bit for the cleaning fee and the dirty barbecue, we would have awarded 5 stars.
