Striking Coastal Retreat in Heart of St Heliers

A beautifully appointed three-bedroom townhouse inside a stunning Spanish mission-style block of units in the heart of St Heliers — one of Auckland`s most loved coastal suburbs. Sun-drenched balcony, fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher and coffee plunger, free parking, in-unit laundry, and a dedicated workspace. Steps from St Heliers Beach, the Tamaki Drive coastal walkway, and the suburb`s excellent beachside cafés. A genuinely special coastal base with the CBD just 15 minutes away.

There are short-stay apartments and there are short-stay townhouses, and the difference is immediately felt the moment you step through the door of this one. This striking three-bedroom Spanish mission-style townhouse in St Heliers has the kind of space, light, and layout that makes a group of five genuinely comfortable rather than just technically accommodated. Guests consistently call out the space as a highlight — and it earns that observation.

The open-plan living and dining area is generous, light-filled, and well furnished, with large windows and a flow onto the sun-drenched private balcony that makes indoor-outdoor living feel effortless. The balcony itself catches the afternoon and evening sun beautifully, and with comfortable outdoor seating and a view over the bay to the Harbour Bridge, it becomes a natural gathering point for the group by the end of the day. The kitchen is fully equipped for proper self-catering — coffee plunger, dishwasher, microwave, modern appliances, and all the cooking essentials needed for everything from a quick breakfast to a relaxed dinner in. A dedicated workspace means business travellers are as well catered for as families and leisure guests.

The three bedrooms are configured with two queen beds and one king single — a layout that suits families, friend groups, or a mix of couples and solo travellers equally well. The two bathrooms eliminate the morning rush that plagues smaller properties, and the in-unit washer and dryer add practical convenience for longer stays or guests who prefer to travel light. Free on-site parking is included with the townhouse — a straightforward inclusion, but one worth noting in a coastal suburb where beach-day parking is often anything but straightforward.

Most short-stay accommodation in Auckland looks much like any other. This townhouse does not. The Spanish mission-style architecture — terracotta roof tiles, rendered cream walls, and arched detailing— gives the townhouse a warm, Mediterranean quality that immediately sets it apart from the typical urban apartment block. It is the kind of building that guests photograph when they arrive, and that gives the whole stay a sense of occasion before they`ve even unpacked.

The unit is well-maintained throughout, with secure access and a settled, residential quality that makes it genuinely pleasant to come and go from. The townhouse`s position within the complex is quiet and private, despite being only a short walk from the beach and the suburb`s best cafés.

The entire townhouse is yours — all three bedrooms, both full bathrooms and the separate toilet, the kitchen, open-plan living and dining area, balcony, and two on-site driveway car parks. Access is via key safe — full instructions and codes will be sent the day before your arrival.

While we will leave you in peace to enjoy your time in Auckland, we are available 24 hours a day for an emergency.

For those non-urgent like-to-haves, just give us a call or a quick message and we will do everything we can to make this your most memorable trip to Auckland yet.

St Heliers has a particular quality that sets it apart from Auckland`s better-known waterfront suburbs. It has the same beautiful stretch of harbour beach and the same iconic Tāmaki Drive, but with a calmer, more residential character than Mission Bay — a genuine village feeling, with a strip of excellent cafés and eateries along the waterfront and St Heliers Bay Road that serves the community without performing for it. On a sunny weekend morning, the beach boardwalk fills with locals, dogs, and the unhurried energy of people who have found a suburb they have no desire to leave.

Tucked into the hills behind St Heliers village, Dingle Dell Reserve is one of Auckland`s most beloved hidden gems — a 6.5-hectare native bush reserve that somehow exists in quiet, verdant contrast to the coastal suburb immediately below it. Originally a raupō swamp, the reserve was transformed through community effort and council planting from the 1930s onwards, with pohutukawa, tree ferns, rimu, totara, nikau, kauri, and kohekohe now forming a mature native canopy that the New Zealand Herald once described — with affectionate exaggeration — as the forgotten Cinderella of Auckland`s parks. It is anything but forgotten today.

The reserve`s network of all-weather walking paths winds through the bush for a 1.6-kilometre loop, taking around 40 minutes to complete. Gravel tracks, formed paths, timber stairs, a bridge over the stream, and open grassy clearings with seating give the walk a pleasing variety, and native birdlife — tūī, bellbirds, and fantails — makes itself heard throughout. Many trees carry identifying labels along the route, which makes the walk as educational as it is restorative. The paths are well-maintained and suitable for moderate walkers, though the stairs and occasional muddy sections mean sturdy footwear is advisable, and pushchairs will find the terrain challenging.

Local artists have also hidden painted decorative rocks along the trail for children to discover on the way, which makes the loop genuinely engaging for families with young children. The reserve connects through to St Heliers Beach via Fern Glen Road, making a combined bush-and-beach morning one of the most satisfying ways to spend a few hours in this part of Auckland.

St Heliers Bay Café & Bistro at 387 Tāmaki Drive is the suburb`s dining landmark — a long-established waterfront institution operated by the acclaimed Hip Group that draws guests from across Auckland for its harbour outlook, relaxed atmosphere, and kitchen that takes its food seriously. On a clear morning, with Rangitoto Island framed in the window and a flat white in hand, it is genuinely difficult to imagine a better café setting in the city. Open from 7am daily.

Annabelles on the beachfront is the suburb`s fine dining address — a European-style restaurant with stunning bay views across to Rangitoto, where owner and maître d` Susan has been creating exquisite dishes and a warm, genuinely hospitable atmosphere for years. This is the destination for a special dinner or a long, unhurried Sunday lunch with the harbour view doing much of the work. Breadwinner Bakery, a block from the beach, supplies the suburb`s morning bread, pastries, and savouries with the kind of commitment to craft that locals have been loyal to since 1980.

Along St Heliers Bay Road and the Tāmaki Drive strip, Sauce, Cigana, Joshua`s (handcrafted natural ice creams and organic coffee), The Fishmonger for fresh seafood and fish and chips by the water, and Curry Village for Eastern suburban Indian round out a dining scene that comfortably covers everything from a quick bite on the beach to a full evening meal. La Vista brings Spanish-inspired cooking to the Tāmaki Drive strip. The Cellar is the suburb`s independent bottle shop for evening supplies. For sea kayaking at sunset — Auckland Sea Kayaks launches guided trips directly from St Heliers Beach and reaches Rangitoto Island in a memorable half-day experience.

St Heliers is well served by bus services along Tāmaki Drive connecting to the CBD, Mission Bay, and the wider eastern suburbs. The coastal walk west along Tāmaki Drive reaches Mission Bay in approximately 20 minutes on foot — one of Auckland`s finest flat coastal walks — and continues all the way into the city. A car makes day trips to the wider eastern bays, the CBD, and Auckland`s motorway network straightforward. Auckland Airport is approximately 35 to 45 minutes by car.

St Heliers is well served by bus routes along Tamaki Drive connecting to the CBD and broader eastern suburbs. Uber and taxis are available throughout the suburb. Free on-site parking is included with the townhouse for guests arriving by car — and the motorway network is accessible for day trips to the Coromandel, Northland, or beyond. Auckland Airport is approximately 35 to 45 minutes by car. The Auckland Ferry Terminal, for Waiheke Island and Hauraki Gulf services, is approximately 15 to 20 minutes by car or bus.

A complimentary starter pack is provided on arrival — a small selection of tea, coffee, milk, and bathroom essentials to get you settled comfortably from the moment you arrive. Supermarkets and convenience stores are nearby for any additional supplies you need during your stay.

Weekly and monthly discount rates are available and apply automatically to longer stays.
A private airport transfer can be arranged at additional cost — please get in touch at least 48 hours before your arrival and we will organise it for you.

To ensure a smooth arrival, we ask all guests to complete a short online pre-check-in form and upload a valid government-issued photo ID before arriving — this takes just a couple of minutes.

This is a non-smoking, no-vaping property throughout — including the balcony, back yard, or driveway, No parties or events. Quiet hours from 10:00 PM to 7:00 AM. Check-in is from 3:00 PM and checkout is by 10:00 AM.

Please note this is a multi-level townhouse with internal stairs between floors. Guests with mobility requirements or a preference for single-level accommodation should be aware of this before booking.

Please be considerate of other residents within the complex — the Spanish mission-style courtyard character of the building means sound carries in shared spaces. We ask all guests to be mindful of noise levels in outdoor areas, particularly in the evenings.
