Upon check in, both of the beds had quite a bit of hair in it. The beds were made but obviously had not been changed recently. The front desk staff was apologetic and helped us get a new room. That room had a dirty bathroom but the sheets were clean so we stayed there after wiping the bathroom down ourselves.
There are a few restaurants near the property. We walked about a tenth of a mile to a Mexican food place that was pretty good, but passed six homeless people in that short distance. Most were sleeping but one was eyeing us pretty heavily as we walked by. I know this is the city’s fault and not the hotel’s, but it’s worth noting in case anyone stays there with no vehicle to get around in. Because of the homeless, we got our food to-go and ate got back to the hotel before it was real dark and ate in the lobby.
Overall, it’s a convenient place, but the lack of cleanliness and the homeless situation will steer us elsewhere next time we need to stay near AUS.
