Horses graze on a neighboring property—occasional smells or the sound of hooves and snorting at night are possible. There are no shops in Harpolingen; the nearest supermarkets are in Murg, Rickenbach, and Bad Säckingen. The village center with a bus connection to Bad Säckingen (well connected on school days) and the Black Forest is just a three-minute walk away. Several farm shops in the surrounding villages offer a wide range of regional specialties such as vegetables, bread, eggs, sausage, ham, pasta, fruit juices, and spreads.
