As others have mentioned, 10-15 steps to reach lobby, so could be challenging carrying heavier suitcases up/down to lobby. Elevator (Lift) from lobby floor to upper floors is out of service. Decor is dated. Room is small, bathroom is small and poorly lit. Shower enclosure is tight, and I'm a lean individual. No on-site restaurant, but sister property offers lunch/dinner across the street. Neighborhood has plenty of other restaurants as well. Internet (for fee) only available in rooms close to the lobby. Otherwise must use PC in lobby, also for a fee.

Good location, poorly maintained

The hotel is well located, just off Kurfuerstendam which is an upmarket shopping street. It is within walking distance of the Uhlandstrasse railway station from where there are direct buses to and from Tegel airport. There end the positives. There is a steep flight of stairs to get to the reception which are not easy to negotiate with heavy suitcases. Check-in was functional with none of the usual niceties one would expect. The hotel itself is a faded reminder of better days. Cleanliness is a big issue - right from the dust lined carpets in the hallways, to the dust on the walls in the rooms. Parts of the dusty wall above the bed had been 'swept clean' by the pillows of previous users. The shower cabinet and shower head were moldy and the hair dryer plug and socket had been taped to the wall with sticky tape or else they would have fallen off ! The lamp shade of the floor lamp in the room had big stains on it with the dirtiest part turned towards the wall to hide it. Seeing the poor state of cleanliness in the hotel we didn't risk having breakfast there.

Location location location

Yes it maybe a little tired and yes it could do with a bit of a facelift but honestly...a fab hotel in a fab location! Perfect for a city break, to be fair we only literally slept there we were out enjoying Berlin. I slept fine, staff were friendly and the room was massive! I honestly couldn't fault it but maybe I'm easily pleased. It's clean and comfy and in an ideal location!! I would stay again.

Hotel close to the centre

I would definitely use the hotel again as the position was very good for the price paid. However the the decor is starting to look rather tired and though the room was clean some of the housekeeping was variable. Breakfast was plentiful and as we were exploring Berlin the main criteria were cleanliness and position.

Great neighborhood, close to metro station

My boyfriend and I stayed here for four nights, and we had an excellent experience. We hardly interacted with the staff, but when we did it was pleasant. Our room was clean and felt homey, with high ceilings and a big closet. The shower was a bit small. The location is good, with only a couple minute walk to the u-bahn station and also to one of the biggest shopping streets in Berlin.

Reasonably Priced City Centre Berlin Hotel

This hotel belongs to a small chain of which I have stayed at several already. It is located in a smart, but quiet street off Kudamm, and is above an excellent local bar/restaurant, Meineke X. The hotel itself is a 19th Century old Berlin building with an impressive entrance hall, and the rooms, although clean and basically comfortable, will be better once they are refurbished. The bathroom was in desperate need of an upgrade. The staff on arrival came across as especially rude and unwelcoming but in the first morning I was ably assisted to receive a room with a desk so that I could work there. The hotel could do with providing free wi-fi in line with many of its other hotels. All in all this was reasonably priced for the standard of accommodation, but 5 minutes around the corner is another of the hotels in this chain, the Domus, an altogether more attractive and comfortable overnight stay.

Excellent location

The hotel is located near Kurfurstendamm, close to good restaurants, in perhaps the most fashionable district od Berlin. It is located in a well-kept Jugendstil building, but its age shows. The rooms are not airconditioned and the size varies. The larger rooms are comfortable. The breakfast buffet is excellent.

Safe lodgings in great neighborhood!

This is definitely an older hotel and its age shows in small details like faded carpeting and a vintage elevator that does not run (a new modern elevator has been installed in back though). The room was large and always kept clean and the French doors opened completely allowing a nice breeze to waft through. The hotel was blessedly quiet at night as our room did not face the street and the neighborhood is fairly residential, but early morning trash collection from the dumpsters in back did wake us up a few times. This is a great hotel for travelers on a budget. All basic needs are met, the location is excellent, and the staff is extremely welcoming and helpful!

Great Location

Well located within a 10 minute walk of Zoological Garden Station and closer to U Bahn. Lovely location in a quiet side road lined with trees and with a variety of good restaurants within very easy reach. Staff polite and helpful. We found it a great base for our visit to Berlin.

Good location, big rooms.

I ended up with the only room with an outdoor balcony, which was a huge room. The other room my friends got was also gigantic. The place is a bit dated, but has all the things you need. No air conditioning, no free internet at all, but other than that, pretty good location near Zoologischer Garten station.

Inexpensive and great Berlin hotel!

This hotel was great, didn't get to try the breakfast however but I would stay again whenever I go back to Berlin especially since it's near the wonderful Kurfurstendamm and Uhlandstrasse areas!

Would stay again...just not in August.

It is a great hotel...for 10 months out of the year. We were on the 3rd floor and during the day it was quite warm. We were out all day so it didn't matter but when we got back to the room at 2000 it was warm. Cool nights help at this time of year...but I can see in July and August that sleeping would be quite warm. 3 out of 4 employees were very nice. Tv didn't work one night but was fixed right away the next day. Breakfast buffet good...plenty of protein choices. Overall an 8 out of 10. Hotel location is FANTASTIC for price!

A nice place to stay

This is an older hotel that has a very nice atmosphere. There is a stairway to the lobby so if stairs are a problem this is not the place for you. The location is close to shopping and restaurants and the metro is only a block away. If I was returning to Berlin I would most likely stay again. From an American standpoint the only drawback is having to pay for WiFi. this is not uncommon in this part of Europe and Starbucks and other WiFi cafes are just around the corner.

Handy clean good value Hotel

Very friendly, helpful staff. Room kept clean and tidy. Breakfast was good although it was the same every day. A very handily positioned Hotel. If we return to Berlin then this is where we will stop.

Very good location for a Berlin trip

The hotel is in a very good location for a Berlin trip-just off the Kudamm however the place is a bit tired looking. Upon arrival they seemed to have lost our details. The initial receptionist was less than friendly however all others were fine. We did not book for breakfast and having seen the same were glad as it did seem overpriced. Otherwise no issues

Excellent value

It is in no sense chic, and indeed is in part shabby, but the rooms are a good size, comfortable (chair to read in), warm and clean. It is quiet, the bathrooms are old fashioned but work well, the breakfasts are fine and the staff welcoming. It offers excellent value for money in a good location for enjoying the Ku'damm on foot and accessing transport to take you everywhere else. I would happily stay there again, but then I don't need free toiletries (they provide soap and tissues), a safe, a mini bar etc.

Great for shopping

Looking a bit 'tired' and could use some TLC. The bathroom round the shower area needed re-grouting and the toilet didn't flush properly.The king size bed was in fact two mattresses pushed together. If you like olde worlde type hotels with a romantic feel then this is the hotel for you. All the hotel staff were friendly and helpful, the breakfast was very nice but a bit over-priced. Very good location especially if you like shopping.

Agreeable excellent value stay in western centre.

Overall excellent value. Outstanding location in a smart area of the city and close to all types of public transport. Room was clean and well-serviced but reception staff were cold and indifferent. Breakfast buffet was plentiful but you have to eat a lot to justify E10 cost. There was no smaller option but there are other good and cheaper options nearby. We would certainly stay there again as for one of Berlin's cheapest hotels it was a very pleasant surprise.
