The villa is located on a hill 5 minutes from Lake Maggiore. It was founded in 1404 by order of Pope Gregory XII. Our 1 hectare botanical park is home to the oldest magnolia in Italy. The proximity to the main tourist, sporting and religious sites of Italy and Switzerland make it an ideal base for sports and spiritual gatherings and retreats. Guests are struck by the beauty of the frescoes, fireplaces, wooden ceilings and the medieval tavern with a brazier and a wood-burning oven.

This is a unique find, we enjoyed the history of the property. Typical Italian streets to maneuver to get to the huge villa and the gate entrance is tricky with a bigger vehicle. The villa rental part is just a portion of the house but plenty of room, 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. Kitchen good but if you want breakfast order in advance. English is not one of the owners languages but he uses phone to translate. There are no laundry facilities as stated on expedia but the owner generously washed our clothes for us so that tells you what a wonderful host he and his wife are. I would truly recommend this villa.

Property was clean but sparse. Pool is on an old tennis court. The room shown with the beautiful arch etc... is not accessible. Handicap accessible shower and bathroom is on the second floor with stairs to it. The caretaker is excellent, and helpful. The a/c is working all day with little result, needs better window sealing for ventilation. Few amenities in the kitchen.
