Great quiet, beach vacation

We had such a great stay at this house! The house was clean on arrival. We arrived after hours and the check in process to collect the keys was very easy. This is an older house and has a camp feel to it. The wooded lot was private even with close neighbors. The neighborhood was quiet and felt safe. It was less than a 10-minute walk to the beach. Yes, you do have to cross a busy street, but there is a crosswalk at a light one block down. We never found it difficult to cross even with 5 kids. They provide 2 beach parking passes, so you can alternatively drive to the beach. We often did that during the day just because we were toting a lot of stuff. But each night, we walked down to the beach to fly a kite or use our telescope. The house came equipped with several beach umbrellas, about 5 beach chairs, sand toys, a wagon, a boogie board. There was also corn hole and other outdoor games/toys, and bikes with helmets. There is also a small charcoal grill. The Middlesex Beach was a private community beach. All the other beaches we visited were packed but this beach was quiet and pleasant. I highly recommend this house for a family beach vacation. We plan to return in the future!

Beach vacation

The house is just OK. It is very old and could use some updates. On the surface, It looks clean but don’t look under the beds or anything like that. It did have a lot of beach supplies, such as games and chairs and umbrellas, which was very nice. The Big porch is completely closed in and it gets very hot out there. I still love the beach and would definitely go back.

Not what we were thinking

My main disappointment is that the first picture in the listing shows a direct path to the beach. However, in order to get to the beach, you have to walk a ways through a neighborhood, then cross a very busy street two times, then go through a locked gate, then walk a ways more through another neighborhood. My MIL could not do the walk and it's difficult if you're carrying alot of stuff. I thought it was very misleading to make that the first picture, like you wanted people to think it was right by the beach. Also, the left side of the house is original, but the right side (with 2 BR and 1 bath) used to be an outdooor deck space. The bathroom on that side is so tiny, the shower didn’t drain and that whole space took so long to cool down. We were so hot the whole first day which made it very hard to sleep. The left side was fine, other than the only sofa being very uncomfortable and the oversized chairs that didn’t make sense for the small space, hard to walk around. The kitchen was fine. The main bedroom/bath was nice. The neighborhood was really nice and quiet.

A cabin in the woods at the beach

We loved our week at 19 Addy Road. The house was just the right size for our family and had lots of great unexpected bonuses like bikes, (including helmets), games, umbrellas and several beach chairs.

Good value: Low price, but some issues with cleanliness, sensitive neighbors

The property is very accommodating — plenty of space for ten occupants, and everyone commented that their mattress was super comfortable. The house could do with updates and modernization, but if you’re looking for an almost cabin-like experience close to the beach (which we were) it’s, and the price, are perfect. We did have some issues with cleanliness upon after hour arrival, which we opted not to call the property management company about that evening because our group was pretty easy going. When I called the next day they were very apologetic, asked why we didn’t call to have it rectified immediately, and ultimately they refunded our cleaning fee, so no real complaints there, but future renters should at least be aware that upon arrival the property was not quite broom-swept, with several food items and others left behind from the previous tenant. I believe this was an exception rather than the rule, as the previous tenant was a relative of the owner and the owner and property manager were under the reasonable impression that the cleaning service would not be necessary before our arrival. Tenants should also be aware that the neighbors are very sensitive to noise and light even before quiet hours. We had a group of ten friends and enjoyed the grill, yard games we brought, and some music while we played—fairly normative activity for a group gathering in mid-July at a house by the beach. The neighbors made their disapproval known, but ironically we were visited not just by the community patrol officer (who rolled his eyes and said he wished to join us!) but also by several deer and a fox who came through the yard 15 feet from us while we were playing outside. So, the neighborhood is beautiful, but the neighbors are more sensitive standoffish than notoriously skittish wild animals. These caveats aside, we had a great time and would recommend the property for the good value it is. If your group doesn’t need an induction range and showers with five heads and a golf cart in the garage, the appliances work, the AC works, and the house and yard are spacious to accommodate the needs of any easy-going, budget-conscious group, and I wouldn’t hesitate to book again.

Addy Rd-Bethany Beach

Location and setting of the house was really nice. The neighborhood was really quiet and close to the beach. However, to get to the beach you have to cross a very busy road where cars rarely stop for beach goers, so it was safer to drive. The house was spacious but everything in it was very outdated from furniture to appliances to kitchen ware. Outdoor furniture was also very dated, stained and rusted and should be replaced. The house also had a strong musty smell that didn't go away by opening windows. Upon our arrival we found especially the kitchen area to have been poorly cleaned and we reported this to the rental office. They offered to send cleaning people to which we refused as we had cleaned already what we needed.
