Hotels.com rates this hotel as 4 stars. I think that’s misleading. The staff was kind (especially Zoe and valet guys). But, no in-room fridge or microwave. No ice, except on the first floor/lobby. Room was equivalent of 2-3 Star accommodations. Location is great. Blow dryer was cheapest thing I’ve ever used. No robes or quality bathroom amenities.

I stayed here recently and it was an extremely frustrating experience from the moment we checked in. We were not given a room key at all. The only explanation we received was that the system was down, and that was basically it. no real solution or clear communication. Because of that, every single time we needed to get into our room, we had to track down hotel staff to escort us and let us in. To make it worse, when we first checked in, we were taken to a room that was still a mess from the previous guests and clearly hadn’t been cleaned. We had to be moved to another room. Since we had no keys, we asked if staff was going to notify the front desk so there wouldn’t be confusion, but apparently that didn’t happen (or the front desk still had it wrong). Around 9:30 we got a knock on the door asking if the room was occupied, and then again at about 10:40 we received a phone call from the front desk asking the same thing and to confirm our name and check-in time, while we were asleep. We also couldn’t get keyless entry working through the Hilton app, so we had no backup option. Overall, the lack of room access, being sent to a dirty room first, and being bothered multiple times to “confirm” we belonged there made this a really annoying stay. I expected a lot better organization and communication from a Hilton property.

Overall, lovely hotel in central Birmingham. Great location. Within walking distance to fine dining, entertainment, museum and cultural venues and historic sites. Hotel is unique and historic. Property is in need of a little TLC. Staff very helpful and friendly.

Room did not have a small fridge, lighting was absolutely horrible, no small sofa or chair to sit on, water never got hot for showering - lukewarm, old water stains on the ceiling in the bathroom around the return register, for $300 a night I DEFINTELY expected better!! No extra blankets! Will not be staying here again

The breakfast cafe was frustratingly slow and the espresso coffee maker out of service. When we first checked in we were assigned to a room with no windows. Had to come back down and ask for a room that had windows. Elevators have not been inspected in the required time period. One night of our stay the smoke detector went off and we smelled electrical smoke. Immediately left room and had the on duty staff member inspect the smoke detector and found the battery to be week. We asked to be moved to another room and he complied. That room had no ironing board or luggage stand, the next room had no coffee maker. The hotel has maintenance issues, cleanliness issues in the public spaces and restaurant, and is understaffed. I worried about our safety and the safety of other patrons. We will not be staying here again.

The front desk agent was wonderful — friendly and helpful — but the rest of the stay was very disappointing. There was hair in the bathroom, shower, and on both beds. The gym below had no towels, no wipes to clean equipment, and all the treadmills were broken. The hotel felt neglected, with spiderwebs on the light fixtures and dirty, stained carpet on the stairs. I used to work for Hilton Corporation and hold a degree in hospitality, so I understand what proper standards should look like. I don’t normally write negative reviews, but this one felt necessary. Sadly, this property does not represent the Hilton brand well.

Great check in and check out experience. Disappointing that there was not a fridge in the room. The toilet had a crack down the bowl. There was a clear plastic cup in the bathroom floor that I thought at first the room just wasn’t cleaned but then realized it’s likely more for a door stopper. This was my first time visiting this hotel. I used valet because I did not know where to park only to realize at nearly 40$ they basically are putting your car in the parking lot across the street that is free parking.
