The good: We were surprised by how quiet it was. There are bars, shops and the seafront very close by but as they are not right on that street, even on a summer Saturday evening it was peaceful. A fan was supplied which was much appreciated as it was an attic room with only a small window. There was a toilet just outside our room (shared bathroom). Check out was by 11am which is generous. The not so great: the hotel and room were tired, the carpets show a lot of wear, the mattresses were comfortable enough for one night but I wouldn't like to stay longer as they have seen better days. The furniture in the room was dated and in some cases damaged. The bad: the bathroom on our floor was basically a re-purposed cupboard, sitting on the toilet you were basically in the shower. There was no sink as no room so you had to go back to your room to wash hands. The shower may have been clean but the shower stall was aged, yellowed and cracked and didn't look clean. We found another bathroom down stairs on the floor below and it was similarly sad and tired. We tried a few times to get a shower but in the morning the bathrooms were always full, so had to have a sink wash instead.

When I arrived at the property, I couldn't get into the building because I had received no checkin instructions. I saw a few message asking me to pay for a damage deposit in my Expedia inbox. But I didn't get any advanced notification in my gmail inbox until on the checkin afternoon. Because I was travelling, I couldn't have seen these messages until I arrived at the property. The message was very cryptic. It wasn't immediately clear what I needed to do. Another hotel guest kindly explained to me that I just needed to pay the £1 charge, then I would get the checkin instructions. There was no one from the hotel on site to help me, nor was there a hotel person on the phone who can help me. After I paid the £1 charge, I had to wait for 30-40 minutes and I had to email a gmail address before I received the checkin instructions. Overall, the checkin process was very stressful and unpleasant, as I had to wait in the 35 degree heat for the checkin instructions to arrive! The room was extremely hot with two large west-facing windows. The curtains had not been drawn so the room was baked when I arrived. One window can be opened but only ajar, it provided no discernable airflow. There was a fan in the room, but the whole evening was very unpleasant, hot and I had trouble falling asleep. The room was right on a busy street, so it was noisy. It also surprised me that there was NO en suite bathroom! I had to climbed 2 flights of stairs to find a shared bathroom !
