Cozy stay in Caen

We booked in Caen for several weeks prior to the Marathon de la Liberte. The location was an easy walk to the SNCF station, Les Rives de l'Orne shopping area and the Prairie. Nice walk to city center and points of interest. Easy access to public transit. Wonderful bakery just around the corner. Saturday morning market several blocks away.We made good use of the washing machine in the kitchen. The fridge does not have a freezer, but had sufficient room for perishables. Good Wi-Fi service. Immediate hot water in the kitchen and bath. Nice shower - good water pressure - although we always seemed to end up with water on the floor.The main circuit breaker malfunctioned Saturday evening while we were cooking dinner. This was over a holiday weekend. The concierge responded promptly, but noted it would likely be Monday or Tuesday before a technician could be scheduled. A technician was on site Monday, but could not make repairs. The service provider had to replace the main breaker, which was completed on Tuesday. While we were unable to cook and needed to discard some of the perishables, it was a minor inconvenience. The concierge dropped off a back up battery so we could charge our phones on Monday.There is no climate control, heating is controlled by the building. A lovely older couple and their cat live across the hall. The gentleman told us he was 90 and shared some his memories of the occupation, bombing and liberation of Caen.We enjoyed our stay.

Die Wohnung liegt an einer Einfallstrasse nach Caen, d.h. kurze Anbindung an viele Bus- und Teamverbindungen (bis zu 10 min zu Fuß; die Wohnung ist relativ gut ausgestattet, allerdings mit sehr alten, teils kaputten Möbeln. Zu der Wohnung gehört ein Parkplatz im engen Hinterhof; dort stand das Auto zwar sicher, wurde aber von einem Nachbarn beschädigt (Fahrerflucht); die Umgebung ist sehr laut, da man sich vor dem Haus gern trifft; die Nachbarn sind wenig rücksichtsvoll - von morgens 5 Uhr bis nachts 2 Uhr wurde sich laut im Flur unterhalten und die Haustür krachend ins Schloss fallen gelassen; die Agentur hat fürdie Kautionszahlung die Firma Swikly beauftragt, bei denen zusätzliche Gebühren anfallen; außerdem muß der Mieter bei Ein- und Auszug eine Fotodokumentation erstellen und jeweils hochladen; bei der Buchung hat der Vermittler den Mietpreis doppelt eingezogen und erst nach Nachfrage mehrere Wochen später zurück gezahlt; Kommunikation mit dem Vermieter geschah über SMS, die eMail-Adresse von hostn-fly funktionierte nicht.
