Summary:
The entire Charlestonian mansion, a fully restored 1850s home, as a complete private estate. Nine queen bedrooms, six bathrooms, LaCornue gas kitchens imported from France, private porches overlooking Cannon Street and complimentary parking. Designed with the precision of a boutique hotel, this is the only private whole-mansion rental of its kind on the peninsula. Perfect for wedding parties, corporate retreats, milestone celebrations, and groups who want Charleston entirely to themselves.
The Space:
The Charlestonian is an antebellum mansion, built in the 1850s and restored with the kind of obsessive attention to material authenticity that takes years and a specific kind of conviction. Nine unique queen bedrooms spread across the mansion, each finished in cypress shiplap walls and centuries-old reclaimed heart pine floors dating to the early 1600s, with sound machines, smart charging stations, and premium linens.
The kitchens are the architectural centerpieces of the property. La Cornue gas ranges and cooktops, imported from Saint-Ouen-l'Aumône, France, anchor spaces finished with custom on-site cabinetry and islands handcrafted from reclaimed heart pine, All-Clad cookware, full glassware, and Vent-A-Hood ventilation.
Six bathrooms tiled in original Vermont slate quarried in 1851 with hand-hammered nickel-plated vessel sinks, salvaged standing-seam tin backsplashes from the original porch roof, and period water closets sourced from Kent, England. The bathrooms of The Charlestonian have been featured in design publications.
Outdoors, the estate offers multiple private porches and patios that represent the full range of the Charleston outdoor experience. Rocking chairs face Cannon Street from the front porch, the quintessential Charleston vantage point. The rear porches and patios offer privacy, lounge seating, and a Green Egg charcoal grill with complimentary charcoal. Four dedicated off-street parking spaces are included.
Entertainment throughout: Samsung 4K Smart TVs in every suite with Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Youtube TV. High-speed WiFi throughout the property. Full in-unit laundry in multiple suites.
The Charlestonian accommodates up to 18 guests across 9 bedrooms. It is the only private whole-mansion rental of this scale, quality, and provenance available on the downtown Charleston peninsula.
Operating Permit: OP2026-07476

The Neighborhood:
The Charlestonian sits in Cannonborough, Charleston's only approved short-term rental zone and one of the most celebrated dining neighborhoods in the American South. Southbound restaurant is steps from the front door. Within a five-minute walk: Vern's, 167 Raw, Malagón, Indaco, Chubby Fish, Allora, Rivayat, Felix, Stars, Babas, and Prohibition. Three blocks from King Street. Steps from Spoleto Festival USA's primary venues including the Dock Street Theatre and College of Charleston. Folly Beach and Sullivan's Island twenty minutes by car. The Fort Sumter steamboat runs daily from the waterfront.
Getting Around:
We offer free parking on-site. We are only 3 blocks from Upper King Street, so most guests prefer to walk and explore the city. The beach is 15 minutes away by car. There is also a free shuttle offered by the city that runs along King Street (3 blocks away) to popular stops. Bike rentals are available nearby or you might enjoy trying a pedicab taxi.
Other Things to Note:
We are three blocks from King Street, right in the middle of all Charlestonian activity. Incredible restaurants such as Southbound, Verns, 167 Raw, Malagon, Indaco, and Azur. Great places to have drinks are even closer at places like Felix, Stars, Babas, and Prohibition. There are also great niche restaurants closer than King Street, such as coastal Italian at Allora or creative Indian at Rivayat.
If you want the full Charleston experience, a walking tour or carriage tour is a must. If you have sea legs and are aiming for total immersion into history, the steamboat runs to Ft. Sumter daily and you can land your two feet exactly where the Civil War started.
