Disheartening experience
Filthy. This is a decent old house for up to 8 people, but it is old and needs some fresh paint and a thorough cleaning. The basement, where guests are to do laundry, has easily visible black mold in addition to painting supplies scattered on the floor and old bedding hung on a rack (to dry?) Yuck. The garbage disposal belched foul fumes and we constantly found ants on the sticky kitchen counters. Just gross. The downstairs 1/2 bath vanity sink drained very slowly and the upstairs bathroom rug was matted and covered with hair and lint. Most surfaces throughout the home were sticky with old dirt. The upholstery on all four dining room chairs had large stains. The couch was old and dirty too. There were no hand towels at all, and the host had chosen black bath towels which says a lot I think. The beds appeared to be pretty new and were ok, but a bit hard as were the over-sized pillows with shams--no pillow cases. I was bitten twice by bugs while I slept. VRBO did nothing to help even though I sent several emails with pictures. It was not inexpensive, but all I could get at the last minute after another VRBO reservation I had initially made got messed up due to VRBO sending the confirmation email to someone else. The pictures looked dingy and they did not lie. I often stay in vacation rentals, and this was by far the worse overall experience I've had.
