Jewel in the Crown-Fully Restored Mansion For Reunions, Parties & Groups Slps 21

WE OWN 3 PROPERTIES WITHIN 1/2 BLOCK OF EACH OTHER. (Vrbo # 817328 and Vrbo # 398617) The Grande Dame of the Triple Crown is finally finished after 3 years of painstaking renovations and decoration. With her sister mansion Priester House situated next door, you can now host up to 37 adults in both houses (Priester sleeps 16, Koehler sleeps 21 adults). and our Gaines orioerty sleeps 12. In this, our third house, known as the Koehler House and pictured here there are 8 full bedrooms each with a separate en suite bath.

A Queen Anne residence circa 1895 fit for one of the captains of industry of the Gold Coast. Built during the zenith of the neighborhood, the Koehler Mansion was built by Mr. and Mrs. Koehler to be next to their beloved daughter who had married into the Priester family and who lived next door. There is still a stairway connecting the two properties in the back yard. It is fun to imagine the grandchildren of the Koehlers and the Priester given free rein to run and play in both huge houses, watched by their adoring parents, grandparents and household servants.

The Koehler Mansion features a fully appointed kitchen with a fireplace and a large granite island around which to serve and circulate. A cozy breakfast room illuminated by a ship chandelier and the panes of hundreds of pieces of beveled glass. 14 adults can be seated comfortably in the majestic dining room which features a fireplace and seating around the dining table surrounded by a 360 degree scenic mural of the Mississippi River and paddle wheel steamboats.

There is a full walk-through butlers pantry featuring china, glassware and flatware for your use. There are three vintage tin ceilings in the kitchen, master bedroom and east bedroom, a magnificent entry way, and a total of five fireplaces in the house, all are fitted with safe electric log-effect heaters. In the entryway there is a chinese screen-enclosed alcove with a trundle bed for a person wishing to reside on the ground floor.
The circular outdoor porch in the backyard is magnificent and is the crowning focus of the house. The porch overlooks the river with peekaboo views. It overlooks both back yards and is a lovely place to enjoy the sun with its south-facing view that is shaded all day long.

By far the favorite public room in the house is the ladies parlor located just off the dining room decorated in soft blue and featuring its original Murano glass chandelier. Soft muted afternoon light and brilliant sunshine on wintery days make this a cozy gathering place that everyone will love. Every bedroom is decorated with an individual theme.

One the first floor there are the Chinese screened alcove with the trundle bed and a queen sized hide a bed in the ladies parlor. The ladies parlor can be made private by its original pocket doors. On the second floor

Great House for Groups

This house was large enough for our group and provided a great place to stay for the duration of our time in Davenport. We arrived when it was dark and it was a little tricky to get into the house. There were no checkout instructions and that was a little confusing. If you are looking for a large house with lots of bedrooms and bathrooms, this is it. The kitchen was well equipped and we were glad to be able to cook most of our meals there. Cleanliness left a little to be desired and we did see evidence of some critters, but it is a large property and there is a lot to clean!

Family Reunion

Poor first impression with the grass not mowed, railings falling down on the back porch steps, and unslightly backyard. Inside the house was furnished beautifully with lots of character. The main TV did not work and when we called the caretaker, there was no response. The freezer was not freezing properly. Despite our concerns, we found the house charming and enjoyed our stay.

Unique Home

Very unique home and decor. Was very fun and made for great discussion. If those walls could talk and tell the stories of the 130 year history. Really nice having so many rooms and bathrooms in each. Would stay again and recommend.

Beautifully restored Gold Coast mansion

We really enjoyed staying in this lovely house. Besides the beautifully restored rooms and period furnishings, the bathrooms and kitchen had all the conveniences. The back porch was especially nice. Communication with the owner was easy, and getting into the property was clearly explained and easy to do. I hope we can stay again in the future.

Guys Trip

We had nine adult men together for a guys trip. The property really fit this well as everyone had a separate bedroom. The backyard was secluded and an excellent spot to congregate. The surrounding neighborhood didn't have much to offer, but it was a short distance to the downtown restaurants. Very cool house that was well maintained. The only issue we ran into was there isn't central air on the main floor and the window units had a little difficulty keeping up on a 90+ degree day.

Unique home that fit our needs

This house was very unique and filled with history. Every day we noticed something different. There is plenty of room for a large family or group. We were 11 adults in town for a golf weekend. The House was perfect for us and we enjoyed lounging in the inside and outside of the property. The immediate neighborhood does not offer a lot but a short drive you can get to many restaurants, golf, casinos, etc. we used VIP transportation to get around to the golf courses and they were great to work with if you need transportation.

Our Family Stay

This was truly an eclectic property! We rented this house as we needed 8 bedrooms with 8 attached bathrooms. When we arrived one of the attached bathrooms had a broken sink and tub with notes attached to not use. Fortunately for us one couple was unable to attend so we used the extra room. After the first night, one couple said they froze. After investigation, they found one of the windowpanes in their room was broken out. With lots of renovation and regular maintenance, this property truly could be a jewel.

Family Reunion

This was the perfect house for us to stay at for a sibling who graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic. The distance from the college and shopping was perfect! All 8 siblings, parents and few others filled the house. Having our own bathroom for every room was a bonus! Plenty of room to gather on the main level too.

Four Families vacation

We loved the house! We are 4 families who have vacationed together since our kids were pre-teen. They are now all out of college. There are 17 of us so we used every room. The guest to bathroom ratio was a huge plus for us. The home is beautiful and historic. The beds were comfortable the back porch and patio great for morning coffee or afternoon cocktails We found a booklet of historic homes in the neighborhood so we enjoyed exploring and finding them. Im greatful there are people with the vision and patience yo restore these historic gems.

Timeless Gem!

This house has such historical beauty! What a gem! We traveled to Davenport for our son's wedding and filled every one of the many rooms with our family. The bride's family reserved the companion home nextdoor making for a wonderful few days. Can't say enough about the uniqueness of this place from the artwork to the chandeliers, to all the detailed ceilings and fixtures. Everywhere you looked was a new treasure! We hosted the rehearsal dinner at this home and it was perfect! Lots of space for a gathering inside and out. The back porch was our favorite place to be - plenty of seating, a firepit, lots of string lights, etc. We didn't want to leave! A huge plus to this place was the abundance of bathrooms. Every room had it's own. We also appreciated the fact that there were two laundry rooms. Can't wait to see prewedding photos from the wedding photographer. He fell in love with the place and couldn't wait to have the opportunity to take pictures around the home. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Family Gathering

Interesting place that was large enough to accommodate our families and our kids. It was so nice that each bedroom had its own full bathroom and made for super convenience. The backyard came in handy one of the evenings for kids to play. I was pleasantly surprised at how well the AC units worked seeing that each day there were in the 90s. Small deduction for cigarette butts left on back porch and yard from previous guests and the neighborhood can be a little suspect but you can’t fault owner for that. Truly a lovely home and overall we enjoyed our time there.

Central Station for the large family

We had 20 people of various ages in the house for a family reunion and 90th birthday celebration. The kitchen was well stocked and the bedrooms all were unique and enjoyable. The house is like a museum, an "eye spy" game and a constant source of discussion. The location is ideal for the river front and old town Davenport.

"Pure Joy" was my wife's expression.

Pure Joy Was My Wife’s Expression This was the perfect home for my wife’s 50th birthday party as we celebrated with a ROARING 20’s theme. Decorations were not needed, as the home itself, was the backdrop of class, sophistication and had the old-style vibe. We entertained guests arriving from Minneapolis and Chicago who were equally impressed with the uniqueness and character of the majestic home. We enjoyed exploring the nooks & crannies of the mansion. From the exquisite chandeliers to the detail in the wooden built in’s, to the stained-glass windows and vintage décor… our guests were in awe of the craftmanship and detail of this beautiful VRBO home. My wife also researched the mansion and learned all about the life of the original owners, who built the house back in 1895, which made our experience so delightful. They were German immigrants who spent their entire lives in the brewing industry and moved in right after they retired. The current owner of this home was a delight to work with and the maintenance man was equally as kind. “Pure joy” is the expression on my wife’s face this past weekend. We relished each minute of our time at the old Koehler Mansion.

The neighborhood was scary There were bugs. Ants in the kitchen, and Lady Bugs on all the beds. There were a few dead flies too. Maybe 10. We couldnt get in because we were given the wrong pass code. Then when we got the right code the keys were NOT in the box. Maintenance man was good. Each time we called him he responded quickly.

Family Thanksgiving

We loved our stay. As an extended family group of 14 adults, we were very comfortable in this large house. The fact that each bedroom had its own bathroom was an unusual luxury for a house with that many bedrooms. The common areas fit our needs for being together as a group as well as separating for individual activities. We were there over Thanksgiving and we were planning to use the grill, but didn’t notice until later Wednesday evening that there was not a propane tank. The handyman for the house was there in the morning with a new tank (on Thanksgiving). We chose to go to Davenport from Michigan, Kentucky, Illinois, and Indiana specifically to stay in this historic house and we were not disappointed.

Very spacious and lovely home

Our ladies group stayed in this home and thoroughly enjoyed our time there, for the most part, but there were a few hiccups during our stay. One big one was that it was terribly cold in the house when we arrived Friday evening. There were no main instructions to follow as to where heat thermostats were located. We tried the most obvious one that was in the dining room, but still weren't getting any heat. We finally found one on the third floor, but the first two floors were still very cold -- a little over 50 degrees. We tried using some of the space heaters that were in the fireplaces, but that didn't help very much. I tried contacting the owner through VRBO, but after waiting and not receiving a response, I called the phone number that we were given, but I had to leave a voicemail. Still no response. The next morning, I messaged through VRBO again and finally received an answer from her that she would call the maintenance person. We found out later that there was another thermostat in the kitchen (it looked more like a light timer and it wasn't in a very obvious space) and that it had been turned way down. We also found out that the one in the dining room didn't work at all. After that, it was a much more pleasant stay! :) It would have been much more helpful if there had been an instruction sheet/book with information on heating, cooling, WiFi info, phone numbers, check out instructions, etc., instead of sticky notes placed here and there. Having stayed in many places over the last 20 years, that's one of the first things we look for in a home that we are renting. It's a beautiful old home and knowing that it had undergone a recent renovation, we would have loved to have seen pictures of it from its 'day', before and after pictures of it during the renovation, and a little history of the mansion itself and the family who originally built it (unless we missed this somewhere). They did a marvelous job in the renovation and the rooms are beautifully decorated! It was nice to have such a lovely and spacious home to relax in for the weekend!
