The property is an old manor house dating back to the 1100's. It has an old world charm and has character.. The bedrooms are spacious. The en- suite bathroom is also large. The fixtures and fittings in the bathroom are old but add to the charm of the property. The room was clean in all respects.
The bed was clean and comfortable. All facilities in the bedroom were as advertised, present and in good order,: the iron and ironing board; the hairdryer and TV.
The welcome at reception was good. The staff were helpful and polite, throughout our one night stay on January19 2020.
Breakfast was good with a full choice of continental or full English, with cereals, juices and toast.
We had dinner and the menu had a wide choice with 5 starters, 11 mains and 4 desserts. The food was well presented and cooked properly. We had no complaints. The drinks and restaurant prices were only what is to be expected in an hotel.
It does need modernising which will get rid of the draughts through the old sash single glazed windows, but that takes time and money, and maintenance for a property of that age is costly.
We almost did not book having regard to the negative reviews I had seen but some people expect too much. This is not the first time I have ignored negative reviews and been pleasantly surprised.
For a cost of £36 for one night bed and breakfast it was great value for money. Yes we would go there again but next time in the summer to experience the garden.
