Great older hotel w/ fantastic staff

Great hospitality; old bones but redone nicely. Our room was on a corner and had a separate sitting area and a table and chairs. We had a beautiful river view. However… my request to not be by the elevator was ignored. I didn’t want to all to change rooms, I know it was busy and we liked our view. It sounded like a jet plane was taking off nearby every time the elevator ran allllllllll night. ALL NIGHT. I couldn’t sleep. I really wish I’d asked them to change our room the second I saw we were by the elevator. My bad for not speaking up and trusting my gut.

Have stayed at Fort Pontchartrain twice, and will definitely stay again. Wonderful staff from check-in, to the dining room, to valet. Nice location, river view, short walk to Campus Martius Park (Outdoor Ice Rink). The People Mover Financial District stop is just down the street - Easy to get to Greektown & Ford Field. The room was clean and quiet.

We stayed here for New Year’s Eve. Staff at check in and check out were very friendly and fun. We used valet parking $40 for overnight. Didn’t have to worry about the stress of finding parking in downtown Detroit on NYE. We had a river view room on the 17th floor. It was a nice size and great views of Canada and river front. Traffic was a bit nosey being right in the road but that is expected in the area.
