Grounds with orchard (shared with other properties on-site). Indoor heated swimming pool (shared with other property on-site, 6m x 4m, depth 1.2 m, one 2-hour slot per guest per day, open Easter - end Oct, weather permitting). Bike store. Private parking for 1 car. No smoking!. The Tranquil Orchard - The Nuthatch is a superb newly built lodge set in a peaceful location in this beautiful corner of Dumfries and Galloway. The Nuthatch is simply beautiful, with its open plan living space, separate bedroom and shower room. The crowning glory at The Nuthatch is the wood-fired hot tub on the verandah where you can lie back and relax enjoying the dark starry skies!

After a few days at The Nuthatch you will feel completely relaxed! A visit to the Nuthatch though would not be complete without exploring the area. This little corner of Dumfries and Galloway is truly beautiful from the Solway Coast to the lush inland forests and hills. You can enjoy many of the interesting visitor attractions that are only a short drive from The Nuthatch like Caerlaverock Wetland Centre, a spectacular 1400 acre wild reserve just a few miles along the coast. Throughout the region there is supreme mountain biking, challenging hill walks and some of the darkest skies in the world, not to mention over 200 miles of stunning and dramatic coastline with secluded little bays and sandy beaches. The Royal Burgh town of Dumfries is a short drive away where there are many shops, pubs and restaurants, or the smaller market town of Castle Douglas, known as the ’Food Town’ where there are an excellent selection of foodie shops as well as some delightful little niche shops. Beach 10 mile. Shop, restaurant 5 mile and pub 2 mile.

The Nuthatch is an excellent bolthole for a relaxing stay. It is well equipped and comfortable. There is access to a private swimming pool which was a treat! For me the large lounge window and covered outside area were huge pluses- being able to watch wildlife, be sat outside with a book and a hot drink was magical!
