This off-grid cabin is a rare and tranquil mountain escape. Bordered on three sides by over 75,000 acres of national forest, this 160 acre sanctuary provides ultimate privacy, untamed nature and access to the amenities of beautiful Durango, Colorado within 20 minutes.
Windows on every side frame uninterrupted wilderness as far as the eye can see. A haven for hikers, dreamers, and those seeking peace, it’s the kind of place where time slows, the air feels cleaner, and you immerse in nature.

There are many wonderful hiking trails near the Overlook Cabin and we encourage guests to explore this incredible land, safely. The terrain here is often rugged, there are many steep cliffs, and wildlife is often present. It is crucial that all guests take the utmost caution when out hiking, wear the proper attire and take the appropriate gear. If you are not a seasoned hiker please stay on the beaten path.
This is an off-grid cabin and there is no bathroom, or sink. We do have a very clean, private outdoor compostable toilet that is next to the cabin and has one of the best views from the property!
We do not have a full kitchen, but rather offer potable water, and a BBQ, propane grill for your use!
The road is very well maintained, but steep as you climb the mountain side before reaching the Overlook Cabin. 4WD is necessary for access. We are happy to schedule a ride up for you in advance for a small additional fee! Reach out to your host before booking if this amenity is desired.
Due to the rugged nature of the property, children under the age of 14 are not permitted. We value safety first.

Please make sure to bring all food inside of the cabin at night and when you're away hiking. Food left outside will attract wildlife including bears.

Fire danger is of utmost importance. Please note fire is not always permitted and it is imperative all guests strictly follow local and county guidelines. We have had a very very dry summer and we are currently under a Stage 2 Fire Ban here in Durango and La Plata County, so unfortunately you will NOT be able to have a fire this time. Hoping for rain!
Wildlife is prevalent here! For your safety and the preservation of the property it is imperative all food and trash are kept in the cabin while you're sleeping, or away hiking.
Food left outside will attract wildlife including bears.

We will provide 5 gallons of filtered water for drinking and cooking and a great place to propane BBQ grill.
We provide a tea kettle for making hot water and a pour over for coffee. Bring your favorite GROUND coffee, or enjoy a nice pouch of instant coffee on us.
There are a few restaurants and markets within only a couple miles of the cabin if you prefer to go out to eat, they are quite close. If you're looking to not leave the cabin you will need to bring the food and beverages of your choice.
We provide a fully stocked camp kitchen for two, which includes; plates, bowls, cups, cutting board, chef's knife, cast iron pan, tongs, spatula, Dr. Bronner's Soap, paper towels, a wine and beer key and a cooler.
You will need to bring at least two bags of ice for the cooler.
Please be sure to clean your dishes and remove trash that does not fit in the provided trash container. Additional bags of trash will NEED to be removed by the guest, or an additional feel will be charged. This is subject to the amount of trash left by guests.
Bring a jacket all times of the year for comfort, great shoes to hike around, a headlamp, or flashlight for getting around in the evening.
The cabin is powered by the sun and has outlets as well as indoor lights for most electric needs, such as a phone, speaker, or other small electronic devices. The outdoor lights are solar powered for evening ambiance.
There is a clean composting toilet just a few steps away from the cabin down a path, lit by solar lights all night.
