The Garden House - Ski Hunter & Windham

The Garden House is a cedar chalet on a mountaintop in the Great Northern Catskills. It’s a place to slow down, to recharge the mind & body, and indulge in the immense beauty of the mountains. The house is private, cozy, and made for late night cocktails by a real wood burning fireplace, and for slow mornings at the kitchen table. Our area is all-seasons with hiking, skiing, waterfalls & lakes, and plenty of fresh mountain air.

The Garden House is a 3 bedroom + loft and 2.5 bathroom cedar chalet recently renovated. We’re located in East Jewett, NY – 2 hours north of NYC and 7 minutes to Hunter & 11 minutes to Windham ski mountains.

Enjoy two living areas, one on the main floor with a real wood burning fireplace. The large windows with southern exposure provide sunlight from morning to dust. Head upstairs to the loft space, it’s a private retreat from the rest of the house. Here you’ll find an oasis of plants, one of a kind tapestry, floor cushions and butterfly chairs for lounging round. On rainy days, either one is perfect for board games, watching movies, listening to music, or reading.

The kitchen is fully equipped and stocked for simple to elaborate meals. There’s a mix of Asian and Italian influences and also an abundance of brewing equipment for the coffee and tea enthusiast.

There are outdoor spaces on all sides of the house, each with unique views. We have rare sunrise and sunset views, 180 panoramic of the surrounding mountains, treetops, and gardens. There’s also outdoor dining area & seating, charcoal grill, and fire pit.

The wild and methodical landscaped garden is to be enjoyed. There’s a beautiful mix of deciduous and evergreen trees, wild blueberries and blackberries, bamboo, and lush ferns that take over the property from spring to fall. The autumn foliage is something we look forward to as the trees, scene, and house fade into the rich colors. If you’re a birdwatcher, the garden is an intimate place to watch nature unfold. So far, we’ve seen hummingbirds, varieties of swallows & sparrows, cardinals, and robins.

It’s a short drive to the restaurants and shops in Tannersville, Hunter, and Windham. Kaaterskills Falls is a must see for the area, and there’s swimming at Colgate Lake and North-South Lake.

We love everything about The Garden House. A tremendous amount of time, work, and detail has gone into ensuring your stay is comfortable. Please be respectable of our home and the gardens. It’s a special place we hope to share for a long time.
