The Neighborhood:
This cottage in central Exeter places you right in the heart of one of Devon’s most historic and vibrant cities, with everything from ancient architecture to modern shopping, dining, and cultural experiences just a short stroll away. Exeter train station is less than 10 minutes walk away, whilst Exeter University and College are just a few minutes walk away.
Start with Exeter Cathedral, an awe-inspiring Gothic masterpiece with stunning vaulted ceilings and beautiful stained glass. Surrounding the cathedral, the Cathedral Green is a lovely place to relax with coffee from one of the nearby cafés. History enthusiasts will also enjoy the Royal Albert Memorial Museum (RAMM), offering fascinating exhibits on local history, art, and world cultures.
The city’s medieval Underground Passages provide a unique and atmospheric tour beneath the streets, while the Quayside offers a lively mix of restaurants, bars, antique shops, and riverside walks along the Exe Estuary Trail. From here, you can hire bikes, kayaks, or paddleboards for an active day out.
Shoppers will love Princesshay and Guildhall shopping centres, alongside Exeter’s many independent boutiques and weekly markets. Food lovers can indulge in a wide range of eateries, from street food to fine dining, including The Ivy, On The Waterfront, and cosy pubs serving local ales.
Central Exeter also makes an excellent base for day trips. Within a 30-minute train ride, you can reach Exmouth for sandy beaches or Topsham for estuary walks, boutique shopping, and riverside pubs. Dartmoor National Park is also nearby, offering spectacular landscapes for hiking, cycling, and picnics.
In the evening, catch a performance at Exeter Northcott Theatre, enjoy live music at a local venue, or simply wander the charming streets lit up at night.
Whether you’re here for history, shopping, nature, or food, a central Exeter holiday home puts the very best of the city and surrounding Devon right on your doorstep.
