Retreat to the large deck and feel the soft, coastal breeze on your face. The CURIOUS CANARY was recently FULLY REMODELED to provide comfort, space, and amenities for families to relax, refresh, and grow together. The home is located in Jamaica Beach, a charming retreat town.

You're a QUICK WALK TO THE BEACH or you can drive and park on the sand. Watch birds from the large deck, or take a walk to the nature preserve at the end of the block!

The space

Our family has chosen to make precious memories here in JB for years, and we are glad to be able to share our home with other families looking to do the same.

This is a 4 bedroom/3 bathroom home split between upper and lower levels with separate entrances - the stairs between floors are outside. There is plenty of room for multiple generations, or multiple families to vacation together. As you lounge around this oceanside cottage, you will find original paintings scattered about. Created by our homeowners, these paintings document the adventures of Ufé, a precocious canary, as he takes escapades around the island.

The upstairs suites both have comfortable queen beds, that get great light, but are equipped with blackout curtains if you want to sleep in. There is a full bath off the main suite and another in the main hallway. Downstairs, with its own private entrance, is the Captain’s Quarters. With a queen size bed, that has been decorated for the look and feel of the cabin of a ship. Also downstairs is our fourth bedroom with a double and two twins. There are a few toys for the little ones. If you have young artists we encourage them to leave a picture on our children’s art wall! We have a pack and play upon request.

There are TWO complete living spaces, upstairs and down. The upstairs living room has a queen pull-out and a large screen television with cable and smart tv. Downstairs living space opens up to the patio. It has a big screen television with cable, smart tv, and classic NES console.

The kitchen is fully stocked for all your cooking essentials with new dinner service for up to 16 people.

The large outside deck is perfect for lounging, enjoying coffee, and dining together. Downstairs has two hammock swings and two different dining spaces to enjoy coffee or drinks.

Location

The beach is a short walk away. We provide a wagon, stroller, beach towels, beach blanket, and some beach toys for your convenience. You will enjoy the comfort of our private, outdoor shower with both hot and cold water to rinse off bodies and toys once you return fro your day at the beach.

At the end of the block is the Galveston State Nature Preserve. From the balcony you can watch beautiful large migratory birds and monarch butterflies or walk down and try to get a peek of wildlife. Sunrise seems to be the best time for animal watching!

There are a few restaurants, a convenience store, liquor store, laundry mat, and other business at the entry of the community.

Jamaica Beach offers a public community pool ($5 per person per day), private boat ramp at Regatta Basin ($10/day passes must be purchased in advanced), a community pavilion and a neighborhood park. Pool hours and operation varies seasonally, so please check the Jamaica City Beach website.

You have access to the entire house. Laundry access is downstairs in unit, we provide a starter pack of paper products, soap, and detergents, so please plan accordingly.
Other things to note

You do have to climb stairs to get to the upper level.

There are people who maintain the property that you might run into during your stay! The landscaping crew comes every 1-2 weeks and pest services come regularly.

Security camera/recording device — Exterior cameras only are at the front and back of house and vehicle parking areas, both for guests' and property's security. Non-recording, decibel monitoring devices are in common spaces.

We live adjacent to a nature preserve. It is great for bird and wildlife watching and unplugging from the hustle and bustle. We take every precaution to keep pests and animals off the property, but if the occasional bug venturing indoors, or the possibility of encountering raccoons, possums, or snakes in the neighborhood is unacceptable to you, Jamaica Beach may not be the best vacation spot for you. Otherwise please come enjoy the small-town charm and beauty of Mother Nature, tucked next to Galveston’s only nature preserve.
