Barken is an inexpensive and centrally located place to stay. You get what you pay for, plus breakfast. However, the rooms at the bottom of the boat are completely substandard.

This was a really cool stay. The boat is beautifully preserved and the room I stayed in was clean, warm and very comfortable. However, it feels like something is not quite working correctly. Firstly it took me a while to get anyone to answer the intercom to let me in on check in - this was resolved easily and the room was ready for me. The biggest problem was breakfast. There was no breakfast room - instead it was served from reception and only cold sandwiches and a limited range of teas and coffee. This was incredibly disappointing. I would definitely stay here again if the breakfast was improved as the location was excellent and it was a novel experience.

The hotel certainly has its charm, but some of the rooms are rather simple and spartan in their décor. The room I was given didn't have a single coat hook. There was nowhere to hang my jacket or towel. What's more, the ceiling dripped on the first night.

We definitely book this for the novelty value of staying on a beautiful old ship. Check in was an effort. No one was around to answer the door. It was 20minutes before we got in and only because other guests came back. Even though the portholes were closed the rain leaked through alot and some of our stuff got a bit damp. Overall the room was clean and comfortable. The buffet breakfast was tasty and it was a fun stay. The ship needs some TLC and maintenance.

Our room was neglected. There is lack of detail in the service, and such a unique venue deserves much more attention. For eg, the room is done, and towels changed, every 3 days. Having said that, evening dinners were decent.
