Unique holiday accommodation on Långholmen in Gothenburg's western archipelago | SE08071
This lovely holiday home, where old meets new, is located on what can be called a paradise island in Gothenburg's western archipelago. A very unique place considering its proximity to Gothenburg. The best description of the house and the island of Långholmen is peacefulness, rocks, sea, boats, rich birdlife and typical west coast vegetation with everything from blackberries to honeysuckle.
There are only 13 houses on the whole island, of which 10 of the houses are permanent residents. There are no cars on the island, only a few four-wheelers. To reach the house and the island, you walk with your luggage, on 2 bicycle carts without bicycles that are included in the rent, from the parking lot over a bridge and all the way to the outer part of the island (about 600m from where you park the car). After the bridge, it is a cast footpath for the first part, but then you walk on a wide nature trail with mixed gravel and rock.
Half the house was built in 1959 and the other half and the 100 m2 terrace including balcony were built in 2006. You can easily choose a suitable spot in the sun on the lovely terrace as it is accessed from several exits and stretches around three parts of the house. There is plenty of outdoor furniture and also a gas barbecue.
The house has been partially renovated in 2023, and it is clear which part of the house that is old and which part that is the new. The kitchen is in the older part of the house and is relatively small, and maximum of 2-3 people can cook at the same time.
In the house there are two standard bedrooms with double beds and a family room downstairs with a sofa bed and a family bed (120 cm wide and 80 cm in the upper bed). The family room has no door but a long curtain to pull. The family bed is relatively undisturbed and separated from view in a kind of alcove under the upper floor.
The northern fairway out of Gothenburg is just under a nautical mile from the island, so from the room on the upper floor, the balcony or the terrace it is very nice to sit and watch the ocean life with everything from small motorboats to sailboats plus the large freighters. It's really amazing to see how all the sea marks and markings of the fairway and the coast start flashing one by one when darkness falls, and where the Vinga lighthouse is finally the top of the nightly light spectacle.
In case of bad weather, there are a number of board games, TV (with Chromecast for streaming), radio, various books, DVDs and some films and, as I said, the view to enjoy.
At one of the first houses when you arrive on the island lives a rooster, chickens and rabbits that move freely on the island. Some neighbors also have dogs and cats so you get a lovely rural feeling when the island slowly comes to life every morning.
The bathing jetty is only 80m from the house, there is no beach, but you walk on a "homemade" ladder from the bathing jetty. If you want to exercise on the water, there are two SUPs to use, a trip around the island is often wonderful if there is not too strong headwind.
At the harbor there is also good crab fishing for young and old children. The eastern part of the island is uninhabited, so there you can have nice walks with any route on the rocks, which sometimes offer a certain height, to, for example, look at the view towards Gothenburg's harbor entrance or away towards the southern archipelago
As you understand, you rent this house mainly because you want to be close to the sea and nature and to live in a calm and peaceful environment without cars, but still be close to Gothenburg's vibrant city life and wide range of shopping, areas to stroll in and activities such as for example Liseberg, Universeum, Ullevi, the Garden Association, the Botanical Garden, Kungsportsavenyn, Haga and a huge range of restaurants and of course the wonderful folk life. You choose this house because you think it's worth getting from the parking lot on foot with luggage etc. - because once you're at the house, your shoulders drop and you can really enjoy this lovely holiday home. There is not much that beats sitting on the balcony or down on the rocks on a sunny evening, watching boats and the sea.
Torslanda Golf Club is about 2km away. On the island of Hisingen there is also Albatross golf club, St Jörgen golf club and HGC Hisingen Golf Center.
If you want to get even a little further up and out on the coast, a trip to Hönö is highly recommended (approx. 13 km including free ferry that leaves every quarter of an hour). Hönö Klåva has cafes and restaurants. There is a nice swimming area in Lappesand.
