The hotel’s highlight is its onsen, especially the one on the 5th floor! The overall service is good, there is live music, free snacks and ice cream in the lobby area. The ground floor bar is nice too. Given the remoteness of the area, an on site gym would have been good. The buffet dinner wasn’t too bad but it felt like quantity over quality.

This was our favorite stay of our whole trip through Japan. It was a much needed slow paced and relaxing day after so much time exploring other Japanese cities mostly by foot. The onsen in our room was heavenly, especially with the cool weather and the gorgeous view. The buffet dinner and breakfast were both top notch. The bed was so comfortable and the entire room was so well appointed and lovely. The staff we so friendly and spoke English very well, which was so helpful with our limited Japanese skills. We already can’t wait to go back.

Superb!

An amazing experience could not fault the food or the service absolutely superb felt like royalty for the day.The only fault I could give to this place is that it was a bit pricey but was worth it overall. A great place to relax and escape the busy and hectic cities of Japan. Wish we could of stayed longer

It was ok

The food at the buffet was awful. The rooms weren’t as clean and updated as expected for the price and five star rating. The outdoor private onsen in room is nice but most of the view is cut off by the wood slats and there is a lot of noise from the front of the buiding (eg cars and people).

Great facility. Friendly staff. very spacious room based on tokyo standard. Great onsen choices We get to enjoy Hakone Kowakien Yunessun for free while staying at Ten-Yu! Kids love the free ice cream options too. Okada Museum of Art and Family Mart are within walking distance. A bus runs directly to Hakone-Yumoto and Odawara, with the bus stop right in front of the hotel.

Relaxing serene experience

We had an amazing experience at this hotel. Sleeping to the sounds of running water streams, swooshing if the trees, birds chirping was very relaxing and serene! Staff members were very friendly and made sure we felt welcomed!

A Peaceful Escape with Heartfelt Hospitality Our stay at Hakone Kowakien Ten-Yu was magical—where traditional charm met modern comfort. Highlights: • Free teas and ice cream added warmth and joy. • Soothing nightly live music in the lobby. • Spacious, fresh-aired room with a comfy bed and pristine bath. • Open-air private onsen with beautiful mountain views. • Delicious breakfast with both Japanese and Western options. • Convenient shuttle to Gora Station and Hakone Open-air museum for easy exploring. Tip: Leave extra time for transit. Buses can be full, but the train from Gora to Odawara is smooth and reliable. Thanks to the caring staff, even a bumpy checkout turned into a story of kindness. Highly recommended for a serene Hakone getaway.
