Disappointment

The breakfast area was still dirty from the day before, and I had to ask the manager to have it cleaned. Unfortunately, the next morning was the same situation. We ended up going out for breakfast down the street, which cost us an extra $60. The laundry area was also neglected, with about a quarter inch of dust on the washer and dryer. For the price of this hotel, I would recommend staying somewhere else.

Manager, Zach, was helpful and friendly. He went out of his way to make sure that the members of my party (in town for a wedding) were well accommodated and happy. The rooms were clean and comfortable. Room temperature was good. There was plenty of parking in the open parking lot. The neighborhood & park across the street were a bit run down but this is a charming, walkable (but hilly) & quirky old city. The St Charles Hotel fit right in. I’d absolutely stay there again.

My room was fairly clean, except for the fact that there was a prominent blood stain on the underside of the duvet (i.e. the side facing my body when I got between the covers). The front desk (only?) employee was overwhelmed by 4 groups checking in, none of whom had rooms ready because there was only one person cleaning the hotel. I was already 30 minutes late to the wedding I was in town for, and so I decided against requesting a new duvet (how would I have gotten a word in edgewise to make the request? who would have had the time to remake the bed?) and just slept on the other side of the bed from the blood.

The room was dingy and cramped, and the curtains were falling off the wondow, which was in terrible condition. The coffee maker was dusty on the inside. The elevator was filthy - it looked as if something had spilled on the floor and had not been cleaned up for a long time. The hotel has potential, but it's not being realized. If the front door worked it would add charm.

TV didn't work, Air conditioning barely worked, room was never cleaned, vending machine had one bag of expired pretzels in it, breakfast was... not really even a breakfast and staff was missing the majority of our stay with a "call this number" note at the front desk that no one picked up.
