On road parking. No smoking.. This holiday home is only yards from the shoreline and a 5-minute walk from Millport town centre on the Isle of Cumbrae. There is a sandy beach with tropical palms fronting the promenade, and yachts are moored out in the sheltered bay. The town offers cafés, shops, bars and a bistro. The Isle of Cumbrae offers a truly relaxing escape, and is hugely popular with cyclists and walkers, yet is just a 10-minute water crossing from mainland Ayrshire on ferries which run very frequently during the summer. A haven for wildlife, Cumbrae attracts migrant birds from around the world and the flora of the island is equally varied, and a visit to the island’s Marine Research Station with it museum and aquarium is a must. There is a water sports centre on the island offering various courses including kayaking and canoeing. Millport is also the home of Europe’s smallest cathedral and Britain’s narrowest house. Newtown Bay in the village offers sheltered anchorages and secure moorings. Beach 50 yards. Shop, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

Magical Millport

We all had a fantastic time at Thornbank.

We all had a fantastic time at Thornbank. We were a large family party and the flat was big enough for all of us and suited us to a T. The flat was very clean, had super comfy beds and kitchen large enough for all of us. A lovely balcony off the kitchen was a delight to just sit and appreciated the garden. We were opposite the beach and small children’s play park. Lovely friendly neighbour too, more than happy to help recommend island food and events. A super time was had by all. Bikes, paddle boards and kayaks can all be hired just five minutes walk away. Love to book again.

Amazing house!

The house is beautiful, the owner thought of everything, the kitchen is well equipped and stocked! The beds were so comfortable we did not want to leave! The views from the property were beautiful, we will be booking again for next year!

We all had a fabulous time. The cottage was equipped with everythng necessary, a washing machine, a dishwasher. The place was spotless. The only downside was having to vacate the property at 10am which was far too early for us to get ourselves organised. Apart from that, everything was spot on. Thank you. We booked Thornbank as a Christmas present for my parents who are both in their 80s and we certainly werent disappointed. There was plenty of room for 8 adults and the view from the lounge window was stunning. The log fire is great especially in the cold scottish winters and the kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. If you have children there are also plenty of games to keep them occupied on those cold winter nights. Millport itself is a lovely place and there are 4 pubs within walking distance where the people are welcoming and friendly. We had a lovely meal in Frasers and enjoyed the karaoke in the Twa Dugs. For those who like something more energetic there are also bike hire shops if you want to cycle round the island. We booked Thorn Bank for a big family celebration, my parents' diamond wedding anniversary. It was an absolutely FABULOUS house. Probably the best equipped house we've stayed in. The views were beautiful from the lounge window and we loved the balcony at the back. We have so many happy memories of Millport through out the ages and 3 generations of us love this island. West Thorn brought us all together. Great kitchen and lovely bathrooms. We want to do it all again.
