Peaceful Family Escape, Pool & Hot Tub - One Hour to the Georgia Coast

Welcome to a bright, easygoing family retreat in Jesup, Georgia — a whole home built for slow mornings, long afternoons in the water, and evenings that end around the fire. You're about an hour from the Atlantic, which is close enough to spend a full day on the sand and still be back in time to swim under your own lights.

This is a house that gets used. Kids come in wet from the pool. Somebody always has a game going. The sunroom collects whoever wakes up first. It isn't a showpiece — it's a place families come back to.

Inside the home

The living area is the heart of it: comfortable seating with room for the whole group to spread out, and a TV loaded with Netflix, Disney+, and HBO Max. The board games and the Xbox live here too, which turns a rained-out afternoon from a problem into an easy one.

The kitchen is modern and fully equipped, with enough counter space and cookware to genuinely cook rather than just reheat. Coffee before anyone else is up, sandwiches thrown together on the way out the door for a beach run, a real dinner when everyone straggles back sunburned and starving — it handles all of it. Bring groceries and settle in.

Then there's the sunroom, which is the room guests tend to fall for. Light pours in and it sits just far enough from the main noise of the house to become the quiet seat. Whoever's up first claims it with a cup of coffee. By the second afternoon somebody's always reading in there.

There's also a dedicated workspace if the office follows you down, and WiFi throughout the house, so you can take a call without wandering the yard hunting for a signal.

The backyard

This is the reason to book.

The pool is the centerpiece and the single feature guests mention most. It's fully fenced with self-closing safety gates, which is the detail parents of little ones tend to exhale over — you can sit on the patio with coffee and not spend the whole time counting heads. It has both heating and cooling capability, available for an additional fee per day; just ask ahead of your stay so it's at temperature the moment you walk in.

The hot tub is where the day ends up. After the long drive down, after a full day on Jekyll, after the kids finally go to bed — it gets very quiet out there once the sun drops.

And the fire pit handles everything else. Pull the chairs up, bring marshmallows, and let the evening run long. Most nights here finish right there.

Where you'll sleep

Bedroom 1: 1 queen bed
Bedroom 2: 4 single beds and 1 bunk bed — the room the kids claim first
Bedroom 3: 1 queen bed

The home sleeps 6 guests. One full bathroom serves the house, stocked with fresh towels, soap, shampoo, and paper goods before every stay.

Please note: this is not a pet-friendly home

We love animals but don't accept pets here, and we'd rather explain why than simply say no.

The yard is not fenced. Our neighbor's dog roams free and off leash, and he treats this yard as part of his daily route — he isn't restrained, tied, or contained in any way, and he comes and goes as he pleases. A visiting dog and a resident off-leash dog meeting unsupervised in an open yard is a bad situation for both animals, and we're not willing to risk it.

The surrounding trees and landscaping is another reason. Several common ornamental plants are toxic to dogs if chewed or swallowed — sago palm, azalea, oleander, nandina, and lantana among them — and sago palm in particular can cause fatal liver failure from a very small amount. Our landscaping and surrounding property contain plantings of this kind, and there is no practical way to make an open yard dog-proof.

About our neighbor's dog, since you'll almost certainly meet him: he is gentle and genuinely friendly, and most of our guests enjoy having him around — kids tend to adopt him inside of ten minutes. But because he is off leash and unfenced, he may wander into the yard while you're at the pool, eating outside, or sitting by the fire. If anyone in your group is nervous around dogs or has allergies, please factor that in before booking. We're glad to answer questions ahead of time.

The ocean and the Golden Isles

You're roughly an hour from the coast, which puts a real beach day well within reach without paying beachfront rates to sleep.

Jekyll Island is the one most families choose. Driftwood Beach on the north end is unlike anywhere else on the Atlantic — a long stretch of shore scattered with weathered, sun-bleached trees, and it is genuinely worth setting an alarm for at sunrise. The Georgia Sea Turtle Center on the island is a highlight for kids, with rehabilitating sea turtles you can actually see up close. There's a water park in the summer months, miles of flat, easy bike paths that even young riders can manage, and a historic district worth an hour's wander.

St. Simons Island has a different feel — Pier Village for shops and ice cream, a lighthouse you can climb for the view over the sound, and Fort Frederica National Monument if anyone in your group likes a little history with their vacation.

Brunswick sits between you and both islands and is the closest real town for fresh seafood, with shrimp coming straight off the boats.

If you want a beach that feels wilder and emptier, Cumberland Island National Seashore is reachable by ferry. It's undeveloped and protected, with wild horses on the dunes and miles of shoreline where you may not see another person for an hour.

Savannah, Tybee, and beyond

Savannah is about an hour and fifteen minutes up the road and makes an easy full day: the historic squares under live oaks and Spanish moss, River Street, Forsyth Park, and some of the best food anywhere in the Southeast. Tybee Island is another twenty minutes past the city if you want to pair the history with a beach afternoon.

Head the other direction and Amelia Island and Jacksonville, Florida are both comfortable day trips — Amelia for the historic downtown in Fernandina Beach, Jacksonville for the bigger-city options.

And if you want something completely different from a beach day, the Okefenokee Swamp is a little over an hour southwest. Boardwalks out over black water, alligators sunning on the banks, and one of the largest intact freshwater wetlands left in North America.

Right here in Jesup

Don't overlook the town itself.

Jesup sits on the Altamaha River, one of Georgia's great wild rivers — sometimes called the Little Amazon for the sheer density of life along it. It's excellent water for kayaking, boating, and fishing, and there are several public access points nearby, with Jaycee Landing the easiest launch. The Altamaha River Water Trail runs more than 150 miles, from Lumber City all the way to the Atlantic, through cypress swamp and tidal marsh. Wayne County is a genuine fishing destination, and Jesup holds the state record for flathead catfish — locals will happily tell you about it.

Downtown Jesup is small, walkable, and easy, with local shops and restaurants. There's a drive-in movie theater, one of only a handful still operating in Georgia and a legitimately great evening with kids — bring lawn chairs. In spring, the Dogwood Festival brings the whole town out. Poppell Farms is a short drive for pick-your-own and fall farm activities, and there are several parks in town with playgrounds and walking trails when you need to let everyone run.

Who this house works best for

Families, first and foremost. The bunk room, the pool, and the yard were made for kids, and the drive-to coastal location means you can do a beach day without unpacking twice.

It also works well for two couples traveling together, for grandparents bringing grandkids, and for anyone using this stretch of coastal Georgia as a base — a wedding in Savannah, a reunion, a stopover on the way to Florida.

Please note that the home has one full bathroom. For six guests that's very manageable, but we'd rather be upfront about it than have it be a surprise.

When to come

Spring and fall are the sweet spot: mild, comfortable, and ideal for both the pool and the coast. Summer is hot and humid, which is precisely what the pool is for — and the coast stays a few degrees cooler. Even winter works well if you add pool heat and plan your evenings around the hot tub and the fire pit.
