Firepit + Valley-View Deck + Trout Creek | Mins to Hunter Mtn | Creekside Cabin
Some places you drive to. This one you sink into. The Schoharie River runs right across the road, close enough that a day can start with a walk along the water and end with the sound of it moving over stone. Wade into the stream, drop a line for trout, or cool off with a swim when the afternoon turns warm. This is the northern Catskills at its most unhurried, deep in the Hudson Valley, with mountain ridgelines that turn gold at sunset and silver under a sky full of stars.
The main house at Creekside Cabin is all warmth and woodgrain, tucked onto a green, wooded lot with the mountains rising all around. A comfortable living room anchors the space, opening onto a full kitchen and a dining nook set for three, so coffee in the morning, a slow lunch, and an easy dinner all happen within a few steps of each other. A queen bedroom and a full bath sit just down the hall, and a queen sleeper sofa in the living room opens up room for four. It is the kind of space that smells like coffee at dawn and woodsmoke by evening, an easy place to land and a hard one to leave.
Outside is where this place really earns its keep. The deck opens toward valley views built for slow mornings and long golden hour dinners, and a picnic table waits nearby for lunch in the sun. Come evening, the firepit takes over, Adirondack chairs pulled in close, marshmallows optional but encouraged. For the best seat of all, carry a pair of chairs to the high point of the property and take in the whole river valley below, where bald eagles ride the air on a clear day.
You are in the heart of the northern Catskills here, where Route 23A traces the river through the valley. Hunter Mountain is a short drive east, with skiing and snow tubing in winter and mountain biking and the Sky Ride come summer, and Windham Mountain sits a little farther north. Spend an afternoon chasing waterfalls in the Spruceton Valley, take on the high peaks of the Devil's Path, or wander out to Kaaterskill Falls, the North and South Lake area, and the shops and cafes of Tannersville. Skiers come in winter, hikers and swimmers in summer, leaf peepers in fall, and the river keeps moving through all of it.
AvantStay provides a personalized hospitality experience to elevate your stay. With our Concierge Service, guests have access to our tech-enabled services like fridge stocking, private chefs, massages, transportation, special occasion celebrations, baby gear rentals, ski gear, beach gear, and more.
Comprised of quaint towns, each with their own charming main street, upstate New York’s Hudson Valley is famed for its natural beauty and seasonal produce. After all, it was here that inspired an entire artistic movement of Romantic painters who captured the area’s rolling hills, colorful foliage, and pastoral setting. View the landscapes in person by hiking the Catskill Mountains. Then, visit local farms where there’s a lot to pick: apples in the fall, strawberries in the summer, and vegetables in between.
Local attractions: Stone Ridge offers easy access to some of the Hudson Valley’s top spots—hike the cliffs and trails of Mohonk Preserve and Minnewaska, explore Woodstock and Kingston’s arts and dining scenes, visit Olana and Opus 40, sip along the Shawangunk Wine Trail, and unwind by the Ashokan and Rondout Reservoirs.
