Welcome to The Amsterdam House
A Restored 1856 Victorian Retreat in Historic Jim Thorpe
Gather your favorite people and experience the charm of Jim Thorpe from the comfort of your own beautifully restored Victorian townhouse.
Originally built in 1856, The Amsterdam House blends historic architecture with modern comfort across three thoughtfully designed private suites — making it the perfect setting for family gatherings, couples’ weekends, biking adventures, holiday celebrations, wedding groups, or friends escaping the city for a memorable mountain-town retreat.
With 5 bedrooms, 3 full bathrooms, and accommodations for up to 14 guests, the home offers the rare combination of togetherness *and* privacy. Each floor is its own fully self-contained suite with a private kitchen, bathroom, living space, and distinctive personality:
* **Swiss Suite** – warm, cozy, and inspired by Alpine charm
* **NYC Suite** – sophisticated urban character highlighted by a stunning bay window
* **Cyclist Suite** – relaxed and adventure-inspired, perfect after a day on the trails
Wake up slowly with complimentary Peet’s organic coffee or Nespresso cappuccinos, then stroll Broadway with one of our provided “to-go” coffee cups while the town comes to life around you.
Located just steps from the Mauch Chunk Opera House, restaurants, shops, galleries, museums, and historic attractions, guests can park their cars and enjoy the best of Jim Thorpe on foot.

A Note From Your Host
Welcome to The Amsterdam House — my personal retreat from New York City and a place very close to my heart.
I’m Laura, and after living in NYC for more than 30 years, I fell in love with Jim Thorpe’s historic architecture, slower pace, and European feel. My love for Amsterdam inspired the home’s name, while the NYC Suite reflects the urban loft aesthetic I’ve always loved downtown.
Our miniature schnauzer(s), Copine (French for “girlfriend”), along with our newest pup/DOB: 10/11/2025 Kip (Dutch for 'chicken') I are delighted to share our home away from home with you, and we hope your stay here becomes part of your favorite memories too.
