Great hotel in Kaohsiung. Very convenient walk to the MRT (subway). The area around was quiet. Easy home base to explore around Kaohsiung with great value. Not much amenities to enjoy but not something we planned on needing or using. If you want a great value hotel, this is the place.

Employees chatting at the lobby entrance, oblivious that they’re blocking customers entering. One of the elevators smelled like pee. My room was spartan with cheap carpeting and not very clean. The toilet seat was not sized for the bowl. Disgusting shower doors. All in all, it’s like an extended stay quality room, not the luxury hotel it says it is. (I stayed in other Chateau du Chine properties and those live up to the branding.)
The toilet seat was one size too small for the toilet bowl and not centered.
The shower door was disgusting.
The room was fine, but noticeably lower quality furniture, bedding, and carpet.

Fairly bland hotel but good quality and service. We stayed in a deluxe king room and very spacious with walk in shower and a bath and a comfortable bed. On check in our shower head wasnt working and someone was up to sort it out within a minute or two of making a call. Breakfast was extensive, although mainly chinese food (to be expected - there were only a couple of other westeners and its a sizeable hotel). There is a lounge upstairs where in the evening you can free, coffee, soft drinks, beer ans snacks, which was a bonus. There is also a free communal laundry facility. Small gym, although shame not equipped with any weights. Decent location with MRT station less than 5 mins walk and around 15 to Pier 2 area.

My husband and I have traveled around the world and have stayed at many 5-star hotels. We like Chateau de Chine and this is our second visit since 2019. We have good comments on the performances of the staff. However, we feel that front desk and lounge staff could have shown more friendliness with smiles. Breakfast buffet is wonderful, but cafe latte is lukewarm. Toilet is clean. However, toilet seat bolts needs to be tightened. Bathroom is clean and good, to be more user-friendly, we recommend adding a bottle of bath gel at the side of tub, and a box of tissue beside the sink.

This hotel is quite old and run down. There is a lot of humidity throughout the hotel, especially in the elevators. The layout of the rooms, elevators and staircases are reminiscent of a cruise ship from the 1990’s. They do have free laundry machines, which is a fantastic perk. However, the stacked dryer takes hours to dry. Try to get the front loading dryer on the 10th floor that dries in about an hour. They ask you to pay for your room when you check out. Which is strange. I chose this hotel based on its high ratings and was somewhat disappointed. What partially makes up for it is their “happy hour” from 6-10 pm where they offer free snacks, pop and unlimited taiwan beer!

The pros: - Excellent staff: friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. - The rooms are big and well designed with comfortable bedding and relatively good soundproofing. - The breakfast is delicious with lots of choice. - The hotel is located close to a subway station and is easily accessible. The cons: - Our room was in the back and the kitchen(?) ventilation starting at 5:45 AM kept me awake, in spite of the insulation (do not open the window, this sounded like a rocket starting!). - the neighborhood is not great, and youll have to walk or take the subway to go in the most interesting part of the city.
