Kaunakakai is Molokai's small, low-key main town, where the day moves to the pace of the island rather than a resort schedule. From Molokai Shores, it is about two miles to groceries, local shops, casual restaurants, and the long Kaunakakai Wharf. The south shore's fishponds tell a much older story of island life, while drives east and west lead to quiet beaches and wide-open coastal views. Come here for fishing, slow mornings, sunset color over the channel, and a Hawaiʻi that still feels wonderfully uncrowded.



Getting Around:

Kaunakakai is Molokai's main town, about 10 to 15 minutes from Molokai Airport. A rental car is recommended since the island is spread out, though the town center itself is walkable, with local shops, the harbor, and casual eateries within easy reach on foot. Beaches and the scenic east end are a further drive away. Parking is simple and uncrowded, matching the relaxed, unhurried pace of this quiet island.
