Built within the grounds of the owner's 16th century thatched cottage, this cosy bolthole sits amid the South Hams countryside, just a mile from a stunning sweep of golden sands, rock pools, crystal clear waters and – 100 metres offshore – the arch of Thurlestone Rock. The section of the South West Coast Path between here and Bigbury-on-Sea (12 miles) is one of the best in the county, offering superb views of Burgh Island. If wildlife-watching is more your bag, head inland instead to the South Milton Ley nature reserve. Stock up on self-catering supplies in Kingsbridge (3 miles) – located within the South Devon National Landscape, the vibrant market town hosts a busy calendar of events year-round. Head to Salcombe (4 miles), an excellent location for shopping, celebrity-spotting, while its inns and eateries are a food lover’s paradise.
Switch off from the outside world here – this retreat promises a cosy and comfortable stay in peaceful surroundings. Park on the roadside nearby and carry your belongings straight inside – the open-plan, studio-style layout is light and bright, with artwork on the walls, collections of curios, and a lovely, neutral colour palette. A beautiful king-size bed is central, perfectly positioned so you can enjoy late-night movies in laid-back comfort. To one side, the kitchen area contains all the essentials for preparing and cooking simple self-catered meals. A shower room is tucked into one corner close by. On the other side of the sleeping area, a small table and armchairs are arranged before the wood burner – fire it up for after-dark ambience.
On sunny days, open the doors onto your private deck area and enjoy al fresco food and drinks at the bistro-style dining suite. Beyond, the hedge-lined, lawned garden adjoins farmland and delivers verdant valley views, whetting your appetite for walks in the surrounding countryside and along coastlines.
