Juniper House - a house that sleeps 17 guests in 8 bedrooms
Hidden within the rolling green folds of the South Hams countryside, Juniper House is a grand yet welcoming retreat designed for families and friends to gather, celebrate, and reconnect. With accommodation for up to 17 guests across eight beautifully appointed bedrooms -six in the main house and two in the adjoining annexe, it offers a rare blend of seclusion, space, and sheer indulgence.
Encircled by five acres of enchanting gardens and wildflower meadows, Juniper House is a place where every corner invites relaxation and lingering. Stroll beneath arbours heavy with blossom, find quiet nooks for morning coffee, or wander along private woodland trails alive with birdsong. A winding path leads to a secret viewing platform where sweeping vistas of Devon's undulating landscape stretch as far as the eye can see — a perfect spot for sunrise meditations or sunset gatherings.
In the heart of the garden, a private outdoor spa beckons: immerse yourself in the wood-fired hot tub, restore aching muscles in the barrel sauna, and cool off beneath the open-air shower, all while breathing in the fresh country air. There's a tennis court for lively matches on sun-warmed afternoons, while little ones will delight in endless space to roam freely amongst nature.
Inside, the house is all soft light and gentle luxury — with flowing living spaces, a large rustic table for shared feasts, and sumptuous sofas made for long evenings by the fire. The kitchen leads out into a sun drenched patio for leisurely breakfasts and further terraces wrapping around the house. The open plan kitchen and dining room leads onto the south facing orangery with table seating for 16 and snug seating.
Stairs lead from the hallway to the large first floor landing with access to three large double rooms and a bunk room, which all benefit from ensuite shower/ bathrooms. The spacious master bedroom has ample wardrobes and shares its ensuite with the bunk room, ideal for young children to be close by. On the second floor are two further bedrooms with a family bathroom.
Tucked to the rear of the house, the two bedroom Annexe is ideal for grandparents or those that prefer a little more quiet or space of their own, away from the larger group. Otherwise known as The Bolt Hole, it has its own private entrance, enclosed patio area perfect for the woofers, and a secret gate leading out to the sauna and wonderful gardens. It also has an open plan snug area, table and a kitchen for making that morning tea. Stairs lead to two bedrooms with breathtaking valley views and a bathroom.
Every bedroom is a restful haven, blending natural textures, soft linens, and calming tones to ensure deep, restorative sleep after a busy day exploring this Devon coastline.
Though it would be easy to while away entire days without ever leaving the grounds, the vibrant surroundings offer countless adventures. A five-minute stroll along a quiet lane brings you to The Church House Inn, a cosy village pub steeped in history. For lovers of the sea, the golden sands of Bantham Beach lie just a ten-minute drive away — a paradise for surfers, paddleboarders, and shoreline wanderers alike.
Nearby, the lively town of Kingsbridge invites with its independent shops, waterfront cafés, and colourful, bunting-draped streets. Further afield, explore the timeless charm of Salcombe, wander the rockpools at South Milton Sands, or ride the famous Sea Tractor to Burgh Island at Bigbury-on-Sea.
For those seeking cultural treasures, Dartmouth Castle, Buckfast Abbey, and Overbecks House await discovery. Young adventurers will adore days out at Woodlands Family Theme Park and Paignton Zoo, while the vast, untamed beauty of Dartmoor promises hikes amongst ancient stone circles and towering granite tors.
However your days unfold — riding waves, scaling moors, or simply soaking in the serenity of the gardens — Juniper House weaves an unforgettable tapestry of moments. As twilight falls, gather around the firepit to toast marshmallows, slip into the hot tub beneath a scatter of stars, and let the quiet magic of this extraordinary place leave its mark on your soul.
