The location, view of the forest from the river and private onsen bath were as described and very good. We were half board and the quality of the food in my opinion was really poor, so much so we stopped eating in the restaurant after day one of a three day stay. I can’t comment on the Japanese menu but the western menu was inedible. It wouldn’t be difficult to offer a simple continental buffet for breakfast.

La Vista Akangawa - a lovely place to stay!

Wonderful location, overlooking the clear running river. Our accomodation was spacious and very clean with a great view of the river and forest. The food was beautifully presented and delicious.

Having a stay in this resort is impressive! The room is spacious and clean. The view from the room is great! The room even equipped with a onsen bath inside the room. The onsen facilities are great! The dinner and the breakfast are super good, and the night ramen is nice. The staff are helpful and nice. I will revisit it in the future for sure!

Amazing hotel

This is a beautiful hotel with great views of the river and countryside. It is quiet and the rooms are very nice. I used the private baths with no waiting. The bar is a great whisky and wine bar. Complimentary ramen was very nice and filling. Other snacks are also given free. Staff were so friendly, and managed around my language barrier with ease and friendliness.

Not an adult-only hotel.

The room offered may be adult-only but the hotel isn’t adult only; there’s a lot of families and children and the sound proofing isn’t great. So if there’s a family staying above you, there’s a lot of banging above you and you can hear screaming. The hotel is otherwise fantastic if you’re not sensitive to noise.

This was the most expensive stay in our trip and compared to the cost, definitely the most disappointing. Starting with the good things: the location is beautiful (even though not unparalleled in Hokkaido), both the private onsen in the room and the larger private onsens that can be used for free were great to use. In terms of things we did not like: as mentioned in other reviews, the property feels dated (e.g. the state of the onsens) - would be ok for a public onsen but less so for an expensive hotel. We more most disappointed by the breakfast and how it was handled: we shared in the reservation that we are vegetarians and would like to have this accommodated - no reaction and we were told when checking in that this is simply not possible to cater for. While Japan can be still tricky for vegetarians, all other (and cheaper!) places we stayed at could cater for us and prepared some brilliant dishes.This shows that this is not about what's doable just simply not caring.

To start with the positve. The rooms are wonderful, they give you the charm of Japan with the comfort of a 5 star western hotel. The food is excellent, but be warned you must pre-arrange your meals, there is no regular restaurant. Also they only serve breakfast and dinner. If you are not driving, we took the rail and local bus, it is inconvenient to get to, and a bit far from the actual Lake Akan town. The hotel will shuttle you to and from the town. over all we had an extremely relaxing time there and recomend it for high quality down time.

Terrible experience, definitely not worth it

The overall experience of my stay is terrible: there are molds in the bathtub; the toothbrushing cup was used as cigarette trash tray by previous occupant and was not replaced when we move in; the washbasin is jammed; the sewer make noises randomly the whole night; the receptionists and staff barely speaks English. The only good things of the hotel are exterior view and food.

夕食の際は料理の提供が途中で滞ってしまい、30分ぐらい放置され、全部で夕食に2時間15分かかってしまった。そのうちほとんどが待ち時間。待ち時間中に給仕に水を注文してもなかなか来ず、残念な思いをしました。このホテルは人員不足または教育不足の大きな問題を抱えていると思います。従業員の多くは研修員の名札をつけており、マニュアル通りの対応しかできず融通が効かないという印象。 全てのコミュニケーションを日本語で行っていたが、容赦だけの判断で館内案内パンフレットや献立表を英語で渡されたり、日本在住、日本国籍なのに在留カードの提出を求められたり、「持ってない」と説明してもイマイチ理解されず、身分証明書の提出を求められたりと旅館業法をご理解されていないようでした。系列店含めてもう泊まることはない。
