It’s really close to local train station. Great staff, nice and clean room. I chose this location wanting to stay close to walking distance from local train station. But away from my area of interest at Higashiyama district.

Kind staff but would likely not book again

I will start by saying the staff is extremely friendly and tried their best to accommodate us with the resources they were given. We booked a triple room (3 beds). It was very small and cramped, little to zero room between beds, we had to walk sideways to squeeze between those spaces to actually get to our beds. The beds were average, semi-firm. The room was very very clean. There was no phone in the room, no way to call front desk. No complimentary water. They do offer breakfast of course with an added fee. No lunch or dinner offered. The breakfast was average. Laundry services consisted of two sets of small stackable washer and dryer which required coins to use. Some positives were free shuttle back and forth to golden pavilion and bamboo forest. I would probably not book this hotel again.

Location is perfect ! 2 mins. away from Marutamachi station. 5 mins. walk to Coop-Kyoto Supermarket. Closes at 8:30pm. Provides FREE shuttle service to 1.Golden Temple & 2. Bamboo forest. Reception staff J is great ! Gave us good tips & directions to the Kyoto Tower. Staff Ryoko is super friendly and speaks fluent English. Room & Bathroom is well equipped. Requested for extra pillows through PoPo, she’s very prompt. She also gave us good direction to the hotel.

Hotel property was well located and not too far from city. Well connected to train station and bus stops. The staff at the hotel were well mannered, courteous and helpful. Would have been better if they can invest in a bigger washing machine and washer in the laundry service. Overall, we had a good hotel experience.

The only reason I gave it an average is because the pillows were tiny. The beds were very firm and there’s a lot of little charges there. I also think I was disappointed because I thought the shuttle buses ran on Saturday and Sunday for the main attractions, which is why I booked it, but unfortunately they don’t run on weekends. If you just want a nice inexpensive hotel, though still totally worth it! Staff were so nice!!

Kyoto’s main attractions are spread out and its metro is not as intensive as Tokyo. To reach the highlights, one has to use a combination of metro, bus, JR local trainsd ...lots of walking. Thus, it is vital your hotel is within walking distance to the subway line. The location of Hotel MONday Kyoto Marutamachi is basically a stone throw away when one took exit 5 , elevator accessible, of the Marutamachi Station of the Karasuma line. Off the platform exit, it is right in front and a the pedestrian cross away. Aside from its great location, friendly and attentive English speaking staff specially Astri, it has a clean, firm beds, soft pillows and modern rooms. Also it offers a free shuttle service ( drop off and pickup) to the Golden Pavilion , Miyami and Arashiyama Bamboo Grove. This free shuttle ride by itself shave off a day or two from your vacation schedule and gives one an added time to explore more of Kyoto.

Pretty spacious rooms for a budget hotel. The hotel is close to subways and some dining. Bathrooms were pretty small and you had to pick up amenities in the front lobby. The staff were very helpful
