We wanted to have a true Ryokan experience while in Tokyo. While the room was great, the person who welcomed us was barely nice. I knew that there wouldn't be a traditional dinner in this ryokan, which is ok for the price we payed. But we were supposed to be able to have breakfast. We checked in at 4pm and saw in the room that we had to make a request if we wanted to have breakfast. So when we got out for dinner at 6:45pm I said to the man who welcomed us that we wanted to have breakfast the next day. He told me it was too late and that I had to make the request before 6pm. But nowhere in the room, on the website or on the reservation was this mentionned and he didn't even tell us when we checked in at 4pm, so we had no way to know! The next day another man was at the reception and he was very nice.

A delightful ryokan full of pleasing touches.

Pros: Its adherence to Japanese tradition whilst offering free wifi and remarkable Panasonic loos
Cons: Apart from finding the futon a little firm and the breakfast a little expensive, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
Location: The hotel is well placed for train and bus services. If like me you are a keen swimmer, the 50m pool at Aquarena is worth a visit.
Keen to have an intense cultural experience during my first trip to Japan, I was not disappointed by this ryokan. From the moment you take off your shoes at the door you realise this is no ordinary hotel. As you sit on a wooden stool soaping and rinsing yourself before entering the public bath you are immersing yourself in tradition as well as hot water. And when you sit at floor level tucking into an array of breakfast delicacies, you are literally tasting the results of centuries of culinary refinement.
