The spacious rooms offer a great location, conveniently situated near multiple public transport options. There are plenty of eateries to choose from. The lobby bar boasts a gorgeous view, and the staff is incredibly friendly.

Stayed five nights, centrally located and impeccably clean. Nice sized rooms and a decent breakfast. I really enjoyed the happy hour 2pm-10pm with free soft drinks and wine and a nice atmosphere. My only negative comment was the bar service in the lounge and rooftop bar was obscenely overpriced. Not a big deal as right outside the door are endless options with an active nightlife and shopping in the heart of Kyoto. Would definitely stay again if we return to Kyoto.

I loved this hotel for MOST things. The only thing I wasn't happy with is the cleanliness. I am very picky when it comes to clean rooms. When we arrived there was a stain on the comforter and then when they took that off the mattress pad was stained and dirty. They replaced all of it right away and were very apologetic and gave us a couple of free drinks at the bar. Other than that, everything was great. I loved the layout of the room as it was nice for multiple people. Ie: one could shower while the other used the toilet / got ready. The top floor had the bar and the patio with lovely views, as well as the breakfast which was great! It's located in a cute part of the city with so many stores and restaurants nearby. However, it still felt like a cozy and quaint part of the city. It's about a 7ish min walk from the train. We loved our stay.

Kyoto solo stay

Very comfortable western style hotel in a central position with easy walking and transport connections. Bed comfortable and breakfast good.

The hotel had a relay good size hotel room and really helpful staff. The location was good enough in general for transport and restaurants (walking distance to Pontocho). The station nearest stations were a little far but walkable. There were plenty of shop walkable from the hotel including Nishiki market. A very comfortable stay and a good hotel.

The best hotel I've ever stayed at. Staff are so incredibly helpful and the facilities are amazing! The location is also perfect for food and sightseeing. Couldn't recommend higher!

A fantastic stay at The Gate. The hotel was in a fantastic location, close to shops and restaurants but also next to transport links to access all of Kyoto. The hotel was very clean and the lounge was perfect for drinks and snacks after a busy day.
