## Emplacement
Capital of the Charente-Maritime, La Rochelle is famous for its postcard-like Old Port. Guarded by the Chain Tower and the Saint-Nicolas Tower, the Old Port has inspired many artists. After a walk on the quays, the visitor is invited to stroll through the pretty streets of the old town. Private mansions, Renaissance residences and old timber-framed houses follow one another. The numerous stores in the pedestrian streets and the streets lined with arcades are sure to satisfy the shopping enthusiast.

The Renaissance main building of the city hall, dating from the 15th and 16th centuries, has a flamboyant gothic style surrounding wall. A building not to be missed! The visit of the city continues with the Fine Arts museum, the New World museum dedicated to the history of the relations between La Rochelle and the Americas, the natural history museum and the Orbigny-Bernon museum exhibiting collections of earthenware, engravings and paintings.
