Nice trip to Lautoka

Overall i would say that it was an ok trip to the Fiji Orchid. Location was not as close to the airport as I had thought. It was advertised as a easy alternative to staying in Nadi at the airport. it is probably a 30 minute drive away from the airport. We found the checkin process a bit tedious, for a place that only has 6 bures it took the better part of 30-40 minutes to check-in as they found our booking but couldn't sort out where to put us, it was all a bit strange. The grounds are gorgeous, the Bure's immaculate and in the majority the staff are very friendly and helpful. We did feel a little pressured to decide on whether we were having dinner in the hotel first thing in the morning, but i guess they do have to get all the ingredients for dinner in time to cook. The dinners we had there were very good. kudos to the Chef. The young lady who cleaned the rooms and provided a turn down service was a delight to have around, she went above and beyond to make sure everything we needed in the rooms were there. The grounds staff (gardener etc) who went to get us coconuts and spent an hour just chatting with us were really nice, made it feel very welcoming. The hotel were supposed to arrange a free transfer to the marina for us to get our ferry, and for some reason they transfer was over an hour late (fiji time i guess), they then called a taxi, and didn't inform us that we would have to pay the fare. I didn't mind paying the fare, but as it was supposed to be a complimentary service, it would have been nice if they had told me that the taxi was not complimentary. overall it is a lovely place, let down a little bit by service and the distance from the airport.
