Checking in is 4pm, we had to be somewhere at 4pm so tried to book in earlier. No receptionist, just a phone number to ring. Would not let us book in any earlier. Returned later that evening to check in, had to ring again, the 'receptionist' appeared to check us in, not the warmest of welcomes we have received at check in. Gave us room 141 keycard, went to the room, bed was unmade, coffee cup half full of coffee, bin half full and towels in the bath. Room was warm though. Went back to reception to complain, gave us room 140 without apologising, just said 'not sure how that happened'. Room okay, but radiator was off, so the room was cold. Went to the restaurant for a drink, my wife had a latte and I a beer, £9.00. Checked the drinks menu when we returned to the room, cost should have been £8.45! Tried to make a coffee, went to fill the kettle and it had a brownish scum in it, did not use it. We have used the hotel many times over the years to visit family, but not anymore.

Third time that we have stayed here. We stay once a year at Christmas, visiting family in the locality. It is a fair value hotel, which is a bit tired but perfectly adequate for what we need. There is a gym which I believe guests can use, but I don't know if there is a fee as it is run by a separate company. As soon as you get into your room, do check that you have everything you need such as enough towels, pillows, teaspoons etc. If anything is missing, just phone the number on your room card and the manager will be happy to sort things out for you.

Multiple bad experiences

I’ve stayed here 4 times. First time the Stu didn’t have an overflow and there was a bad damp problem and smell Second time the room was okay but there were no curtains so it was hard to sleep Third time there was no hot water Twice I got parking tickets even though I had registered my vehicle with reception. These were cancelled when I queried it but it was still stressful. The price is very high for what you get. I just booked my husband into the holiday inn in Gloucester for £70 a night and the experience was much better I’ve held off giving a review for this property in Hope things would improve but I think after 4 disappointing stays with nothing but problems I would not go back here. Sorry.

Cheap but not so cheerful

Blaby Western was obviously once a very lovely place. However, The main building now looks rundown and not looked cared for any longer. Large parts of it are more like a building site and not used but full of 'stuff'. The accommodation is very dated and in need of some TLC. The room we had was barely clean but functional.

I needed this place to stay overnight for work purposes. For that - and the price - it was perfectly fine. Room was clean, had tea / coffee making facilities - and the place was close to Blaby town centre. Place is undergoing restoration though - so parts of it are untidy; it doesn't look like the photo on the website. No breakfast. Receptionist Glen though was very helpful. Good communication. I would recommend this place for work purposes - it's functional - but would not recommend it for holiday purposes.

Most thing's were poor staff not caring all they were concerned with was playing cricket on the car park ......extremely un professional in their work ......tiles broken in the bathroom, the whole place looked more like bombsite than a hotel, i will not be going there again
