Levanto, a city of pre-Roman origins, lies in the far north of the seductive villages of the Cinque Terre. The name Levanto derives from the medieval Latin levantem, oriente, in the sense of "place that is located to the east of Genoa".
The town of Levanto has an interesting old town, many beautiful painted villas, a lively Wednesday market, good restaurants and shops. In the main square, Piazza della Loggia, there is a lovely 13th century loggia.
Levanto boasts a particularly mild climate. The long sandy beach is ideal for all beach activities. It is a great base for surfers, who come from all over Europe.
