Ocean Adventures: Fishing & Whale Watching
If you love being on the water, Loreto Bay is a dream destination—and Casa Chika puts you right in the heart of it.
Fishing Season in Loreto
Loreto is a world-class fishing destination. Whether you’re a serious angler or just want to try something new on the water, the Sea of Cortez offers an incredible range of fishing experiences.
Here’s a quick guide to what’s biting and when:
Dorado (Mahi-Mahi): June to October is prime time. These bright green-and-gold beauties are fun to catch and delicious to eat.
Yellowtail: Best from February to April. These powerful fighters are a favorite for sport fishermen.
Tuna: Late summer and early fall (August to October) is the best window for tuna.
Roosterfish: Usually caught close to shore from May through August.
Sailfish & Marlin: Show up in warmer months, mostly July to October.
You can book a half-day or full-day charter with a local captain—they’ll take care of everything from bait to cleaning your catch. (And yes, there are places in town that will cook it up for you!)
Whale Season in Loreto
From December through March, Loreto turns into a front-row seat for one of nature’s most amazing sights—whales!
Blue Whales, the largest animals on earth, are regularly seen in the waters right off Loreto Bay.
Humpbacks, fin whales, pilot whales, and even orca make appearances too.
Whale-watching tours depart nearby and take you into the Loreto Marine Park, where these gentle giants roam.
This is a bucket-list experience and one of the many reasons people return to Loreto year after year. Even from the beach, you might spot spouts on the horizon!
