The location is excellent, but unfortunately, the amenities and service were disappointing. There was a 5-hour power outage during our stay, which lasted only 18 hours in total due to delayed cleaning (cleaning was completed at 5 PM, though check-in was scheduled for 3 PM).The host initially claimed the outage affected all of Malibu, but we quickly discovered that neighboring buildings had powe, it appeared to be isolated to this property. When I inquired about a partial refund, the host first offered only 15%, blaming us for the length of the outage because we hadn’t immediately reported it. This logic was flawed, as his original claim suggested a widespread issue, and it’s unclear how earlier notification would have changed the utility provider’s response.We followed the instructions provided and contacted the assistant listed in the message, but due to the assistant being based overseas, time zone differences delayed communication. The host later stated we should have contacted him directly instead.After some back and forth, he raised the offer to a 20% refund, describing it as a generous gesture—despite the inconvenience and our decision to leave early.In addition, the owner made condescending remarks, suggesting that I shouldn’t use VRBO if I expect a functioning rental or timely support. On top of all this, the furniture does not match the listing photos. Rather, a bunch of cheap replacements.
