This was our third visit to the Santa Monica Proper and we look forward to returning. The building and furnishings are beautiful and the rooms are welcoming and comfortable. We love the food at the roof top restaurant and enjoy lounging in the beautiful setting around the pool. The staff is great- helpful and accomodating. We also love the location- walking distance to charming cafes and the beach.

Everything was great! Slight deduction from 5 stars as the room I was assigned was smaller than the size described on Hotel.com website and the hotel's website by at least 50 square feet, possibly closer to 80. No mention of an upgrade when I checked in, and looking at Hotels.com, I think there were upgraded rooms available. Staff were all very friendly, housekeeping was excellent, and the hotel is super clean with an abundance of common areas to hangout.

Terrific stay. Lovely staff. Every interaction was wonderful, particularly Dillon at the front desk, all of the valets, Jonathan in the lobby restaurant, and Callie at the rooftop restaurant. The roof was in the Landmark part of the hotel, had a small terrace, and was beautiful. The Proper is a great hotel for a small conference or meeting. They have a dedication to art, fitness and wellness, including providing both bikes and e-bikes for guests. It’s not the closest hotel to the beach / coast, but isn’t far either, and is adjacent to a relatively quiet residential area.
