Check in was difficult because there are 4 different motels in a row that all check in at the Thunderbird (Starlight motel, Budget motel, Great Lakes motel, as well as Thunderbird) therefore, the staff has very little time to deal with problems. Our room had a broken lamp shade, a plug in that was half hanging out of the wall—I could have dealt with these, but the worst thing was there was a baseboard heater that was throwing out heat and could not be turned off. It was 85 degrees outside, and the room was unbearable. When i complained, the desk clerk said, “oh, that happens sometimes “ I said that we wouldn’t be able to sleep, and please could we have another room? He said they were full, the best they could do was call a maintenance man, but he couldn’t get there until after 11pm. Long story short, we were so desperate to get some sleep that we ended up paying $160 more for a room that was cool. It was a king, where our original room was a queen, but what a racket! I was extremely disappointed. They said because I had booked through Expedia they couldn’t give a refund, I don’t know if it’s true,

Staff's attention is excellent, they were all very kind. The furniture and facilities are quite old and there's not enough lighting in the room. Even though it was clean, there was an ammonium smell in the room.

Facility was older, and dated. The bathroom, towels and bedding were clean, but the rooms were musty and the mattress on the bed was definitely old and uncomfortable. We stayed at the start and end of a camping trip to the UP, and the first night we were moved to a room without carpet to address the musty smell after entering two different rooms that each smelled really bad. The second night at the end of the trip was in the Starlite again, but the musty smell was much more faint, so we didn't ask for another room. Musty smell may be in the drapes or carpet? The beds in both rooms were in need of replacement-they were sagging and we ended up meeting in the middle because the mattress was too soft.

Our recent stay at Starlite Budget Inn in Mackinac City got off to a difficult start. First day when checked in to the room, it was quite frankly terrible: the bed was broken, and the bathroom was in poor condition. Next day when I asked the staff to change our room, thankfully, they were able to accommodate us quickly. The new room was a significantly ok as compared to the first, However, the issues weren't limited to just the initial room. Indoor pool was not in working condition, they offered kids pool passes to the other hotel. We did not have time for it and the outdoor play area for kids was not maintained, We appreciate the staff's prompt action in resolving our room issue.

The stay its self was good! They were very nice and allowed us to check in early. If you are not staying longer than two nights they need you to call for room service the room was good! Walk isn’t to bad, only thing I will say was negative was the pools, the two indoor pools are yellow and brown, the outdoor one was blue, but had a lot of stuff at the bottom and the hot tub smells like chemicals, overall the experience was decent!
