THE COTTAGE SURROUNDINGS
Located on the shores of Lake Superior in the heart of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, the Beachcomber's Cottage is nestled in a private woodsy setting. With the property extending undeveloped on both sides, the cottage is surrounded only by the whispering of tall stately pines. An ample parking area provides space to unload your kayak or canoe from your vehicle.

Just a short walk down a cobblestone path leads you to the expansive 450 feet of private sugar-sand beach with the fresh clear waters of Lake Superior stretching out before you.

With no nearby neighbors and no highway crossing to access the beach, it’s just the spot for your summer vacation – to lounge in your beach chair, take an invigorating swim, or stroll down the beach collecting rocks and driftwood. And it’s perfect for an autumn getaway, where the fall colors are vibrant and spectacular, the air crisp and clear.

And only 15 miles west of the cottage are all the conveniences of Marquette, with its charming and historic downtown, filled with local restaurants, breweries, and shops, lending the perfect spot to unwind and stroll along the harbor.

You can use the cottage for a starting point to enjoy the many hiking and bicycle trails in the area, or head out on day trips to explore the Upper Peninsula. Wherever your adventures take you, the Beachcomber’s Cottage is your perfect “home base.”

End of Summer Vacation

We loved this cottage and it was the perfect end of summer vacation. It was about 15 minutes from town but easy to get. We enjoyed Marquette with lots to do and the slow pace of the city. We spent most of our time on the beach, we did bring paddle boards and sand toys for the kids. We ventured out to Picturing Rocks, Black Rocks, and a few hikes.

July 2024 week

The cabin was clean. The short path to the beach was an easy walk and the beach sand is light and fluffy. East walking beach and shallow out for a few hundred feet which was great for our kids. The kitchen was well stocked with dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and storage containers. Can’t say enough good things about the beach! There’s a pretty solid grocery store just ten minutes to the west in Harvey, and the drive in to Marquette is easy. Hopefully soon the Iron Ore Heritage Trail will be extended to Lakenenland across the street to make an off-road bicycle route all the way into Marquette available from the property.

Beautiful Get-Away

The cottage looked exactly the same in-person as it did online! The beach was super close, the huge picture window in the table area was incredible; the gas fireplace was AWESOME on chilly days. It was a fantastic setting and ambience. I'm grateful someone mentioned bringing drinking water - that's definitely necessary. We brought gallon jugs with us and filled them up every/every-other day at the Marquette Co-Op grocery for only 50 cents each. Silly me, I didn't notice there was no washing machine! Totally my own fault, but I want to draw attention to that fact. We just did some laundry in the kitchen sink and let it hang to dry; no problem. Lake Superior water was crystal clear, and ranged from somewhat wavey to very calm. We enjoyed every part of it, no matter the weather. The cottage is a good 15 minutes away from most places; not walkable to anything really. This could be a bummer if you're used to walking into a town, or could be a relief because it's so quiet and remote and peaceful. Pick your adventure! Very happy with the stay.

Location, location, location!

Beachcomber's cottage worked perfectly for our family vacation. The cottage was well equipped, and the beach was amazing! Despite higher water levels, the beach was still wide and sandy and allowed for long walks in either direction. The sunset walks were the best. The beach is very private, we only saw one neighbor our whole week. The location is great as well! We made trips to Munising to hike and do all the Pictured Rocks things and to rent an ATV. We also made several trips to Marquette for shopping, meals and sites. Very private location, yet convenient to a lot of the attractions.

Great location, nice property!

We had such a great time at beachcombers cottage! It was myself, my husband and two kids (15+8). The cottage was just the right size for the four of us. It was clean and comfortable! We loved that it was on the water where we could easily bring our paddle boards down. The cottage had almost everything we needed!

Fantastic Location

You can't get a better location. The beach was awesome. The cottage was very clean but, a bit rustic for me. Bring drinking water with you. I always have a air mattress with me wherever I go so, I can't tell you how the beds were. Overall, we had a great experience.

Wonderful place

We lucked out and had perfect weather our entire week! This is our third visit over the last 5 years- Lake Superior was like glass and perfect for Kayaking, swimming and walks on the amazing stretch of beach. This is one of our favorite locations to vacation near Marquette- Lots of activities of hiking, Grand Marais visit and more. Cottage is always comfortable, clean and has everything we need, bonus is that it's close to Marquette.

Perfect location for a small family of beach bums...

This was our third family trip to the area and our first stay at Beachcomber's. We were delighted by the location and the ease of accessing this gorgeous beach. The house was just right for our family of 4. The beds were comfortable and the house was well appointed. Our communication with the manager and the owner was quick and professional. Minor concerns were addressed immediately. Our only small gripe was the extremely slow tap in the kitchen sink, which made dishwashing a bit of an adventure. We ended up carrying pots of hot water from the bathroom and pouring them into the kitchen sink. We thoroughly enjoyed our week at the lake and hope to return to Beachcomber's next summer.

UP road trip!

My friends and I enjoyed kayaking, waterfalls, and several local restaurants while in Michigan. The Beachcomber's Cottage was nestled just a few cobblestones away from the lake where we were sure to catch almost every sunset each evening, they are breathtaking. The only hiccup we had was on the second day we lost water pressure in the kitchen.

Amazing late summer, early fall trip

I was looking for a waterfront property on Lake Superior that was close to both Marquette and Munising. This cottage fit my requirements perfectly. It is closer to Marquette which was great for dining and shopping. With Munising only 30 minutes away it is still close as well. I made a day in Munising visiting several waterfalls that are all close to one another and town. I topped the day off with a sunset Pictured Rocks cruise. Lakenenland is super close to the cottage and is a fun place to see. I went twice, once for the sculptures and once for the Bog Walk. Loved them both. The cottage itself was very comfortable and fully appointed. The bathroom is a bit tiny but nicely updated. The beach is a beautiful sandy beach that is a short walk from the house. It's not right out the door, which was just fine for me. Because of the time of year I went the beach was empty. It would be a great place for kids to play as it is large besch and the water shallow for quite a ways out. The homeowner does have a few requests of guests to keep their home and systems running properly. These are understandable and should not be problem for anyone who stays in the home. I mean, being respectful of someone's home should be a given. I have stayed in several northern Michigan properties and this one was one of my favorites. Great location, nice property and beach, lots to do close or relatively close by. Highly recommend.

This is a hidden gem, literally!

I feel like I spent a week in the Caribbean surrounded by pines. It’s a short walk through the woods to the beach. Very few neighbors on the beach. The cabin was clean and comfy. The location is perfectly located between Munising and Marquette so you have a variety of adventures to choose from. I’d also recommend checking out nearby Lakenenland sculpture park.

Beautiful beach retreat. Quiet and relaxing.

We really enjoyed the view, our morning walks on the beach and the surrounding areas for hiking to see waterfalls. The coffee maker unfortunately didn't work so we purchased and donated a new one. I would recommend a new queen mattress as the current one has a lean to the center and is uncomfortable to sleep on. The quiet, relaxing time was well worth the restless sleep.

Private getaway on amazing land, cabin ok

Pros: plenty of space for our fam of 4; had everything we needed; amazing location with serene woods up against the sandy beach; very private with no close neighbors. Cons: tap water smelled like sulfur; cabin could use a good dusting and thorough de-cluttering; beds were not great.

Peaceful convenient clean

We loved the home - a perfect, private cabin in the woods. You can’t see or hear any neighbors, just the waves and wind through the trees. We had to do a little work and were able to connect to the internet - And although it was slow it did the job. Love the stone path to the beach. The beds were not very hard if you like a firm mattress. - that was the only downside. All in all - a Tranquil week at the beach - we headed east to pictured rocks, and west to Marquette for great hikes - we loved the location!
