The location and proximity of 2/40 Thames St to our activity was great at $150 per night, however the house was not cleaned and walls, some with holes, dirty so nothing a wash & coat of can't fix. Bathroom and kitchen cabinetry in need of repairs. Electric jugs leaked hot water onto my foot; broken power point do not use; mugs dirty, ants & cockroaches visited. Sponge on sink smelled and a pile of used soap bars in the cabinet. I can say beds were okay but lounge and divan bottoms going through. I hired 2 bedrooms but had to ask for bedding for the 2nd room to be delivered but then removed the doona covers as dirty. Seems like no money being spent on these units; awaiting a good price to redevelop site in a prime Box Hill location??
We arrived and left within the hour. Everything was awful, and nothing like the photos on the site. I know Melbourne is expensive, but keep looking. We drove over 12 hours in 24, rather than stay in this property.
I have never stayed in anything like this before. The units were in appalling condition. The floors in one unit were clean and the bathrooms/kitchen wiped down but that was it. Front door broken, mould on windows and ceilings, carpet stained, curtains falling apart and furniture on its way out. No soap or detergent in one unit.
This detached unit may seem economical but there is an additional $150 cleaning fee for every stay. Check the fine print. During our stay we were wrongly accused of having more people stay that we booked for. In other words, someone was watching us. A little creepy.
Called the hotel to see if we could check in early.
They had no knowledge of a booking
After 2 hours (of my time) on the phone, finally they were able to figure out that hotels.com is a sister of expedia and so were able to figure out that it was in fact booked.
Then I was asked for more money. After agreeing a fixed price with the hotel owner (we had an additional child with us) I arrived and was asked to pay more again (even though half our party was leaving a day early) which I refused since we'd agreed a price before my arrival.
The living room was comfortable enough, big telly - old sofa bed which was comfortable to sit on for short periods. Excellent Gas heater on the wall which was about the only real plus for the apartment.
Rooms were dirty (found other guests rubbish under the beds, dust coating almost everything - a big surprise since we were asked to pay a "Cleaning Fee" direct to the apartment manager. Bedding seemed like it had been inherited when Grandma passed on or obtained from St Vinnies or the Salvos, mismatched and faded.
The kitchen was missing utensils and trying to work the Gas stove had the knobs come off and scared everyone out of the apartment while I figured out how to stop the apartment filling with Gas.
The area was great, close to shops and restaurants but a little far away if you want to get to the city.
