Spacious Classic Cabin Retreat- near Lassen

Classic winter retreat for an extended family or multiple families. Three common areas make it easy to spread out - read a book in the living room by the propane fireplace, play games in the dining area or play upstairs in the lounging room with foosball and a closet full of kids costumes. Take a snowshoe hike or go sledding across the street. A true escape to focus on family and friends.

Mill Creek is a small community of former US Forest Service cabins only 15 minutes from the entrance to Lassen National Park.

This is our family cabin that we happen to rent out when we aren’t here. It is filled with games, puzzles, books, snow clothes, snow shoes, extra food, drinks and a full medicine cabinet. Our kitchen is completely stocked. We leave baking and cooking supplies and ingredients here for ourselves, but feel free to use what you need. The fridge and freezer are yours to use. You can also leave an ice chest outside the sliding glass doors in the kitchen for extra space.

There are four sleeping areas and bedding is provided. Downstairs there is a master bedroom with attached bathroom with bathtub & shower, one bedroom upstairs with queen bed and a door, the other two bedrooms upstairs are loft style and do not have doors. One loft area has a queen and two full size beds. The other includes two twins that can be pushed together for a couple. There is an additional bathroom with a bathtub/shower off the living room.

There is a washer and dryer for your use. There is a bluetooth speaker in the dining room to play music off your cell phone.

Occasionally during a storm, the electricity can go out. We now have a propane generator that can run the fireplace for heat if this happens.

If there is snow on the ground, we recommend you arrive while it is still light out. You will need to park across the street and carry your belongings to the cabin which is approximately 30 yards off the street.

The nearest gas is in Chester, 25 minutes away. We recommend you have plenty of gas before you leave Chico or Red Bluff to head up the mountain.

There is limited cell phone reception in this area. AT&T and Verizon LTE are usually, but not always, good from this location.

We do have wifi, but it a cellular hotspot which means that it is great for email and browsing, but not streaming.

Staying in a cabin like this can be a little extra work at times, but is worth the effort!

Main cabin, deck, campfire ring (you will need to bring your own campfire wood)

Email, texts, calls.

- Highland Ranch - only about five miles away. the lavender butter served with the bread is so good. Nice food and ambiance.

Wonderful Friends trip

Our two families enjoyed our stay at the cabin. Plenty of space for our large group. Everything we needed was in the cabin. David responded quickly to my question and made sure we had everything we needed.

Vintage, retro, family cabin

If you want to stay in a northern CA, retro, early 1900’s with updates, one family owned cabin this is your place. It’s got the original wood kitchen cabinets and checkered linoleum floor with enamel sink, no air condition, no garage, and more details of its time period. Closets and drawers have owner items but there’s room for your things, too. The staircase is steep and wood, not toddler or senior friendly. Both bathrooms are on the 1st level with 3 bedrooms of 4 located on the 2nd level so you have to do the steep steps for a middle of the night bathroom visit. Pluses were a plethora of board games, a fuss-ball table and deer roaming in the yard entertained our group of children 1-6 years old. Negatives were lack of window screens for cooling down the house in summer and mediocre bedding. Modern cabin was not what I would title the listing but we enjoyed our stay.

Lassen cabin

Nice location close to Lassen stocked with lots of games, books, and cookware. However there were some cons: showers were full of hair from past visitors so didn’t drain well and never got hot. It took hours for the hot water heater to heat up so that would’ve been nice to know. We had to carry our stuff in from the street since the driveway wasn’t plowed. Instructions for check out were not super clear or detailed. Overall it was a good stay.

Great spot near Lassen

Our group had an excellent stay! Everything was just as described. We enjoyed the hammocks in the backyard, the large selection of games and puzzles, the variety of room setups, and if we hadn’t been so tired from our travels, I’m sure the fire pit was amazing! If you have a baby that is mobile, the stairs are a bit treacherous. I wish we had brought a baby gate but didn’t expect one to be provided. Would definitely stay again!

Good place to stay for Lassen

Stayed with 2 families (8 people total) and it worked well. About a 20 minute drive to the southern entrance to Lassen park. Nice outdoor space for grilling, hanging out and seeing friendly deer. The kitchen worked well for cooking. Bathrooms are ok but worn. Wifi and laundry worked well. Solid boardgame collection (Twilight Struggle!). Basically nothing nearby, so stock up on gas and groceries before you get here.

Nice, Clean, & Comfortable Cabin

Great location, only 15 minutes away from Lassen Volcanic National Park. Quiet and convenient cabin. Lots of space for kids to run around, including a bouncer outdoor. My kids love it and don't want to leave. We had a great time. I already started recommending this cabin to my friends and planning to be back during snow season.
