We were excited to stay here based on the listing, but our experience was very different. The photos show a large gray building, which is actually an old stable, not the lodging. The real cottage has a plywood exterior that didn’t match the pictures, which was confusing when we arrived after dark.Check-in was stressful. The lock box didn’t work, and the only instruction was that the owner lived “down by the pond.” With no lights or signs, we had no idea where that was and ended up waking a neighbor, who kindly pointed us back up the hill. We then had to knock several times and honk the horn to get the host’s attention.Inside, the cottage was clean and the hosts left fresh eggs, which was a nice touch. Some spiders, as expected in a country cabin. Only one of the A/C units worked. The most important thing to know: you need an SUV or higher-clearance vehicle. The gravel road is steep and full of potholes, and a smaller car would likely struggle to make it.The outside grounds were disappointing. The trash can still had garbage from previous guests, which didn’t smell great. The kids enjoyed seeing the animals, but the donkeys and mini horse only had fresh hay once, and several horses stayed in cobwebbed stalls. The manure pile outside the stable added to the rundown feeling.Overall, the cottage had some positives, but the property and experience didn’t match the description. With better upkeep, honest photos and clearer info about the road, this could be much better.
