New to the rental market in summer 2026, Welcome to Hem's Roost!

In 1933, American author and fisherman Ernest Hemingway wrote a short story called, "A Clean Well-Lighted Place," which was the inspiration for this quiet, comfortable and spacious studio; as was his novel, "Old Man and the Sea!"

Ideal for a couple seeking a relaxing getaway, this sun drenched and charming accommodation offers a tranquil and very private setting with original artwork, extensive Ernest Hemingway memorabilia, and nautical antiques that will add warmth and a bit of nostalgia to your stay. Young couples with one child 2-years old or younger will also find this accommodation ideal.

Located in a quiet residential neighborhood setting adjacent to hospital and across street from MHC boat ramp Hemingway's Roost is centrally located to all points of interest on the Crystal Coast. Only 2-miles to Atlantic Beach! Bring your bikes and walking shoes as it’s only 2-miles down bucolic Evans St. to restaurants at the Morehead City waterfront or walk across Arendell St. at crosswalk to Crystal Coast Welcome Center and enjoy the sound-side boardwalk at sunset.

A well-behaved pooch (50lbs. max) will love the 1/3-acre fully fenced property where they can play fetch and chase squirrels! Please add your pup to your reservation by clicking the "Travelers" tab as there is a $15 per night fee to bring them along. But they will love having their very own doggie park fully stocked with tennis balls and squirrels!

Only 500' to MHC boat ramp across street. Boat trailer parking available free of charge. RESTRICTIONS: boats are limited to 26' max, single outboard, with dual axel trailer max. Some wiggle room here though. Best to send inquiry to host with boat specs before booking. Property ideally accommodates a coastal skiff suited for in-shore fishing and family fun, NOT an off-shore fishing boat. ALERT HOST if your plans include bringing a boat.

Return to your quiet accommodation to relax in the comfortable Hemingwayesque leather club chairs and have a great night’s sleep in the king size bed. If you’re the early riser, no problem! Quietly slip out of bed and take your cup of coffee outside onto the patio to enjoy the porch swing or Adirondack chair while your better half gets their beauty rest!!

Driveway parking makes for easy loading/unloading and vehicle security. Property exterior has motion sensor spotlights and generous landscape lighting for secure night time coming and going.

Owner manager lives full-time nearby and is readily available for assistance of any kind.

Please be careful backing out of driveway. Gate, and gate posts are 12' apart. Consider 3-point turn in driveway to exit front first to avoid posts.
Well behaved 50 lbs. dog max. Should be crated if left unattended inside studio. Should always be supervised if outside. Fee: $15 per night, per pet
Boats are restricted to: 26' max. w single outboard and dual axel trailer max. Inshore skiff is ideal. Non-Conforming boats NOT permitted on property.

Perfect for two and a dog for a quick getaway weekend at the beach! All the amenities you need and a fully gated yard for the pup to run freely. A small propane grill sits outside if you want to cook (microwave, small sink, and single-serve kuerig inside too). This is a studio room off to the side of a garage, but you’d never know! It is a completely finished space. Parking is easy, communication with the host is great — would recommend!
