Great basecamp for hiking in the surrounding area. Rooms were small, but clean with all expected amenities . Staff were very friendly and the breakfast was a nice selection of local and western dishes. The onsen was a very nice bonus

The staff and setting was exceptional at this absolute gem of an option in Kyoto . A short walk to a great train stop , Gion, and everything the city is known for . Every detail , from the rooftop bar , to rooms , to amentirs, onsens snd staff is exquisite. Phenomenal value for this quality . All the other guests raved also .

I'd read some good reviews so was excited for my stay but found this hotel mediocre compared to others I've stayed in Japan. The location is great, a short walk from the station and close to amentities. Breakfast was varied but there was a sign in the front desk suggesting you should arrive early or the food would run out. Soundproofing in rooms isn't great, which surprised me as it looks to be a new building - I was woken up by my neighbour taking clothes off the hangers. Overall a pleasant stay but nothing special or premium.

Great Hotel

Lovely design hotel. Every detail was thoughtful and beautiful. Nice amenities. Excellent breakfast. Perfect jumping off point for the Nakasendo trail. (Unrelated to the hotel review but if you are traveling to Nakatsugawa for the first time, tip: book ahead at a restaurant/izakaya for dinner, there are plenty of nice places but many were fully reserved even in a quiet season for tourism)
